However, although many people would agree Abigail Williams is a rationalizing miscreant, the hardships she has encountered has made her a victim of her own mischief. Abigail William’s mother and father were killed when she was younger. The Indians smashed her parents’ heads together which caused them to die. When you love your family at such a young age it influences who you become later on, in life. Unfortunately for Abigail she was orphaned and ended up working for John Proctor.
Sal felt guilty and responsible for her mother’s miscarriage. Sal believed her mother lost her baby because she carried her. On many occasions, Sal was the only one that could see Mrs. Winterbloom’s unhappiness in her family, since then she wondered if her mother was also unhappy in her life like Mrs. Winterbottom. She blamed herself for not paying attention to her mother’s feelings. The second main effect of abandonment that Sal experienced was confusion.
Vanessa had a very troubled childhood; she used to cut herself because of it. She hated her mom, and as she got older she realized how much she resembled her. She felt useless, and alone, so the cuts got worse and worse as she grew older. The slaying of Susie devastated her whole town and brought them closer together. Losing such a young and bright student such as Susie in a horrible way such as murder and rape, the town would react in the same manner because murder never took place in their small Pennsylvania town. Death is portrayed as a sad and depressing entity. Although everyone will experience some sort of death in their lifetime, many do not know how to handle a sudden and brutal one. For the Salmon family, the death of their daughter Susie is a tremendous task to try and cope with because of how she died.

Mary Shelley’s mother had died during childbirth, and Mary herself had undergone multiple miscarriages. Mary Shelley was a very rebellious character, and had shocked many people by running away with a married man, she had gone against nature, and so she incorporated her own life experiences into the book. For this reason I believe that Mary Shelley could evoke a small majority of sympathy to Frankenstein. Mary Warren was forced by John Proctor to speak the church about confessing/lying so Elizabeth could be back home with John. Abigail found out that all this was happening and she was mad, very mad. Most girls were afraid of Abigail because she was a threat to them. Abigail watched her parents die right in front of her, which scared the girls. Abigail also threatened the girls; she told them she would do horrible things if they ever turned on her.
The people of the town were pressured, accused, and tested simple tests but the girls would scream with such pain whenever the accused spoke. The victims, the girls, and the judges all were consumed in the anarchy and lost all sanity. Were people convicted of not only being witches in Salem but across the country suspicion arose and people convicted women of being witches for the simplest causes. Two girls took a joke way too far and caused disorder across the country. Not all "witches" were from Salem, MA.
