The causes of emigration of Cambodian In Cambodia, almost all the families have some relatives who emigrated to other countries. There are many causes of emigration of Cambodian. Firstly, the lack of job opportunity causes people to do emigration. Since Cambodia is a less developed country, there is less economic activity and job opportunity as well. People feel difficult to find jobs in Cambodia and think that there would be a better work condition in other countries. Consequently, they go abroad to find jobs. Based on the July 2004 open registration of migrant workers, there were 181,579 Cambodian migrants in Thailand. Secondly, Emigration is caused by getting married with the foreigner. After getting married, the couple needs to live with their partner, so one of them needs to do emigration. For Cambodian, they usually do the emigration because they think there will be a better standard of living there. For example, after getting married with American, many Cambodian have moved to live in America. The third was war which causes emigration. When war has accursed, it leads to insecure and all the structure in the society has been destroyed. People can’t continue living in the fear. Therefore, people need to find a new and safety place to live in, and most of them often decide to emigrate to the safer countries to escape from the war. In Cambodia’s history, the war in 1970s led more than 300,000 Cambodians emigrate to the United States, France, Australia and other countries.
