Holden decides to stay at a hotel instead where he can relax and not have to deal with anyone at Percy anymore. Holden feels sad every time he receives a present because he feels although he didn’t deserve it. For example, the ice skates his mother took the time to buy, and now he’s being kicked out. He feels like he let her down. Holden gives a fake name so he wouldn’t have to elaborate on his life to this woman.
Being rather isolated, Holden Caulfield struggles even more than most with the challenges involved with relationships as he fails to balance his desire for isolation with his desire for companionship. Although Holden constantly searches for new possible relationships, he always ends up spoiling any chance he has with one. This is shown primarily by his interactions with both Sally Hayes and Jane Gallagher. The reader first becomes aware of Holden Caulfield’s difficulties with relationships when Holden discovers his roommate, Stradlater, has a date with Jane Gallagher whom Holden used to play checkers with. Later he gets told by his bestfriend Banco that his manager has been stealing money from the register for awhile. After Mac hears that he goes and tells the owner of the restaurant Duncan about it and Duncan fires the manager. Mac becomes the next manager but this is still not enough. While walking home one night Mac runs into two stoners who take him to a third stoner that is an oracle. They tell him of a system that makes it so you don’t have to get out of your car to order, the drive-thru.
Daisy does not stop, and continues to drive. When tom finds out that his lover had been killed, he goes straight to George (Myrtle’s husband) and tells him that he was not driving that car. He told him that it was Gatsby that killed his wife. George is furious when he hears this and starts to walk to Gatsby’s mansion. When he arrives at Gatsby’s mansion, he finds Gatsby in his swimming pool and he shoots him.
