The Founding Fathers put the 2nd Amendment in the Bill Of Rights for a reason, although some will say that it has no bearing today. Second, allowing teachers to carry handguns would provide better protection for the kids. In the event of an unpredictable school shooting, nobody is prepared to estimate the number of lives that
Some (mainly parents) may oppose to this proposition as it may be an awkward environment where students are trying to learn but are feared by the knowledge that the very person standing in front of them teaching, is armed with a dangerous weapon. And who is to say the teachers themselves would not commit a crime? Not every person in the world is “good” and it’s not always the students that are to blame. There have been records of teachers that were unable to teach because of their emotional instability or mental illness. Knowing this, any teacher could pull off a well-devised plan to wipe out everyone simply because no one would have suspected them.
That’s all I want is just to limit the access that people have to firearms. Another argument would be to not leave people defenseless but as I stated before there are other ways to protect yourself. Right now there is a debate going on about letting people carry guns onto school campuses because of school shootings that happened in “gun-free” zones. I do not think that would be a wise idea because if any little misunderstanding, argument, or dispute went on and someone really disagreed with it, then who knows what would happen. Fights in schools happen all the time, but usually the worst of it is a couple punches thrown.
Suspension and expulsion is not an effective tool and solution in our schools because it can lead to dropout rates and other violent crimes in the future. If a student commits a crime and the crime is not considered to be threatening, it is most likely that the principal or teacher may suspend that student. To the student suspension is a good thing for them since they have to just stay at home and do nothing. When students get expelled or suspended so many times, it seems normal to them, so they would not feel the consequences of the discipline and the purpose of it. Dropout rates and other violent crimes may contribute from continuous suspension and expulsion.
Students should not be informed of which teachers are carrying. (If it is publicized, an active shooter would merely avoid that class or teacher and focus on other classes or teachers. Furthermore, schools should not resemble military barracks. Kids should have no idea of what adults are carrying guns, if any. Identifying teachers that are carrying puts a target, no pun intended, on those not carrying.
In today’s world, a cell phone is a necessity for any child old enough to be able to use it in an emergency. The problem arises when the cell phones are brought to school. Many school districts prohibit their use, even their presence at all times, even during lunch (hopefully, there weren’t such kind of prohibitions in my school). Student handbooks outlaw the possession of a cell phone anywhere on school grounds. Any child with a cell phone can have it confiscated.
Lastly, constant fights, suspensions, or lack of the ability to cooperate in school with other students, makes it hard for bullies to apply for other schools due to their behavioral issues. As a result, not having strict disciplinary actions instilled in schools makes it hard for bullies to excel in their academic life. Clearly, not having strict disciplinary actions instilled in schools lets bullying divert its bullies and victims from excelling in school life, and further future advances. Nevertheless, many believe bullying only occurs in school, and it would be unnecessary to take such drastic disciplinary actions; others, who are wise enough, know bullying could give both the bully and victim future disadvantages. For one thing, many adolescents who have
Armed Security in Schools “Why ban one and not the other? And once you start banning semiautomatics, where do you stop?” (Milloy) Society believes the ban of guns is going to stop the violence in America, while most people don’t realize that by banning firearms, we as a society will only increase the power of the criminal over law abiding citizens. The man at the Sandy Hook Elementary School could have been avoid by many ways such as the mother not owning a gun knowing her son had a mental illness, or keeping a tighter lock on the gun in a safe that only she would have access too, finally one of the best ideas to be suggested is the proposal of having armed security guards in school. I believe that we should have armed security in our schools to protect our children by having an armed security as deterrents, President Children get secret service agents yet our children have nothing, finally properly trained and certified school staff to carry firearm. Having an armed security guard or peace officers at our school alone will act as a deterrent towards violent criminals from thinking about going to the school and committing a shooting.
Children should not be afraid to go to school, and they should not be questioning their safety. Guns are used in robbery, theft, muggings, and rape. I know that these things would still go on without guns but at least the victim has a better chance of getting away. People are threatened with guns all the time to give up your belongings with the risk of losing your life if you don’t corporate. We don’t need to go through this.
Additionally, many students probably are incapable of properly using a gun and that makes it even more dangerous for them to have one. Even though Bishop Eustace does not have metal detectors nor are the students searched when they enter a building, I think that if this is what would be necessary to ensure the safety of the community, it should be done with no arguments. If a student does not want a teacher to see what they are bringing to school, then it most likely doesn’t belong on school property. I feel that I already have a lot of individual freedom and I am satisfied with my limits and restrictions as to
