Eric Bartlebaugh ENG 132.01 Essay #2 Amy Zicafoose A Much Needed Change The last eight years under the Bush administration have been for difficult for many Americans. The current administration has not kept their promises and now we are now ready for change. Not an idea for a change that we will not see in the next four years, but a change that will be visible to the American people. The Bush administration is run by lobbyists in Washington, lobbyists that do not care about the everyday American, but will do what is good for their company. He wants the best education possible for the young people in America, and it starts with improving the k-12 education system. The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) that was passed could have been a success, but without the proper federal funding, the NCLB failed. Instead of tracking how students are doing by filling out standardized bubble tests, Obama plans on improving the tests for readiness in the workplace (The Blueprint for Change). He feels that schools that are struggling should not be punished for doing poor, but given extra attention to help improve the struggling areas. His plan includes helping teachers increase salary for mentoring younger teachers (The Blueprint for Change). Revolutions in communications and technology have created a global economy of high-tech, high-wage jobs that can be located anywhere there's an internet connection - an economy where the most valuable skill you can sell is your knowledge. Education is now the currency of the Information Age. It's no longer just a pathway to opportunity and success - it's a pre-requisite. There simply aren't as many jobs today that can support a family where only a high school degree is required.
