European vs. American Education We are living in an era of people with growing concerns about their children’s educational future. Having a degree or at least a high school diploma is now a “must have” on a job seeker’s resume. Presently, education is important, and companies value and hire candidates who graduated from reputable universities, sometimes without having them pass through a tough brand standard hiring process. In fact, it is no wonder that today, entering prestigious schools is primordial. There have been debates, contradictions, research, and studies in order to design the best educational system in the world.
Our American education system is only postponing these students from entering the real world. These changes would force young adults to work with people of all ages, and no longer be constrained to the typical high school environment (Source 3). American high schools need to step up their game as they are merely falling behind. By abandoning the large emphasis on testing the students will learn the information for good and not just for the test. Incorporating more relevant information into the curriculum, will allow students to become more interested.
I also enrolled to help me determine if I want to join the Air force, and I know if I do wish to join the Air force I would need all the values and qualities that JROTC teaches to their students. I’m also trying to surround myself with positive peer pressure rather than negative peer pressure. I look forward to this class because I know that it is going to be very challenging and demanding. The class should help me to focus better on my education and life. You need structure to keep things in order and to keep chaos down.
Another problem was that even though there are anti-discrimination policies, a slight differential treatment towards minorities is still present. Employers expect and demand more input from minority groups and that is why people are hesitant to leave their workplace to cast a vote (Rivers, 2012). An outside source looks at voting from a different perspective. An interestingly opposing statistic is that minority groups with higher education and social status take the time to participate, as voting is very important to them. They want to take part in the choice of their government because it took so long and so much effort for them to receive the equal rights and abilities to enjoy democracy (Speel, 2010).
By Benjamin Barber, The Student and the University by Allan Bloom, and Class in America by Gregory Mantsios, the connection between the three is the idea of how education is the key to the people’s future, how it classifies them, and how it builds a nation. In Letter to America, written by David Boren, a former US Senator and president of the University of Oklahoma, quotes, “One of our greatest shortcomings as Americans is our failure to be intellectually curious about what is happening to us as people.” (Boren, 11). The problem is that education is being disregarded, and America needs to realize this as a whole. If the education in the United States is declining, the students are affected, and then the building of a great nation is disrupted. Barber, Bloom, and Mantsios all provide opinions and ideas that could solve this problem and help future generations succeed in a functional nation.
Our country prides itself on encouraging its citizens to better themselves through education. (P) While its priority has been high school graduation, many jobs now require college degrees, making higher education more important than ever. While I understand that every American should be expected to sacrifice during this hard time, just as we were in World War II, I feel that this particular sacrifice would put our country in an even worse state. (S) Our work force will not be prepared to handle nor understand the advancements that we have strived so hard to achieve. College is made to prepare students with the newest information possible, so that we can constantly be improving ourselves and be able continue to compete with the world’s leading nations.
That parents stress to children the importance of education all their school lives, but they continue to give money things that are less important, instead they should put money towards the teachers who wants to help make a difference in every child's life. Barber believes that parents should actually display their actions that they care and value their education. He explains who are to blame for the lack of quality education in America. The generations before the young and the government have a partial blame in why the school system is failing. Barber's argument is more superior, because he takes the sociopolitical context of education in to account, where as Henry does not.
Cross Cultural Comparison of Education in Japan and USA Nelson Mandela once said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This powerful statement goes to show just how important education is in shaping our society. As we educate our young citizens, they learn to become great men and women of society who will continue to shape our culture and foster the future economic development of our country. With so many different countries and different economies spread out across the world, some extremely successful and some teetering on the brink of extinction, it would serve that there are also differences in education across the globe. Looking specifically at both Japan and the United States there are clear differences as well as similarities in the structure, regulation, status of teachers and inequality in their education systems. The goals of any education system ought to be straightforward and available to the public.
Best Way to Learn? Teachers are at a constant struggle to determine the best, most efficient methods of teaching, so that they may succeed in providing their students with the means to reach their absolute potential. With the technological advancements in today’s society, teachers are constantly debating whether or not to include more technological methods of teaching, methods that would better prepare students for tomorrow, rather than continuing to use traditional methods which cover a wide variety of topics that may not pertain to certain individuals. The conquering of these challenges is pivotal to the prosperous futures of America’s youth in today’s society. In order to provide students with the best education imaginable that would enable them to prosper, it is necessary to combine, or balance, both technological and traditional methods of teaching in the school environment.
Implementing School Uniforms Implementing school uniforms will increase academic performance and reduce behavioral problems. While this is a temporary solution to the permanent problem of getting students to strive for achievement, the implementation of school uniform policies, especially at this pivotal point in time in our countries future, is one way we could help young people to realize their potential thru improving the over all quality of education in our country. While students and parents face many daily struggles that distract them from more important things, financial issues can be sited as one of the biggest struggles facing families and individuals these days. School uniforms provide a low cost alternative to expensive designer clothing. Students whose parents can’t afford expensive clothing can be spared the harsh words and jeers from their peers, allowing them to blend in instead of being singled out as poverty stricken or less fortunate then others, thus giving all the students the outward appearance of equals.
