The opposite learning styles, involving listening and verbal skills, are more difficult for me. I would much rather learn how something works by using it than by listening to someone tell me how it works. When any of my teachers stand in front of the classroom and just reads form the text book. This type of teaching is my kryptonite, the words just pass right through me. To help me my learning process in class's like that i need to recreate the lectured material using my own visual tools and adapt my teacher's preferred teaching methods to my preferred learning styles.
The objective of the reading program was to meet my individual needs and to adequately prepare me for achievement in my regular classroom. I had weak word attack and phonic skills when I started the program. I also had a sight vocabulary. My teacher wrote on my progress report that I can only benefit from instruction if I put effort into the task and that I had a short attention span. By the end of the program I was at the grade level I was supposed to be
When I came across anything I thought was relevant in the textbooks I stuck post-it notes around my desk stating briefly what it was and where I found it. Deciding which points to use in my essay was difficult and did result in a considerable amount of deleting and re entering information. Using the textbook I found ir easier to read the conclusion at the end of the chapter first, followed by the summaries at the end of each unit and leaving the beginning til last. This gives me a better understanding of what concepts im covering. I am still finding the referencing process quite difficult but I am hoping this will get easier as the course
VAR Reflection Assignment I did my VARK test and my result was that my learning style was Kinesthetic. I expected to be Read/Write because I noticed that I remember the best when I read over few times and make main points. Vark Inventory Reflection According to the VARK learning style inventory, my preferred learning styles are read and write. I agree with the results, Read/Write which means that I need teachers who use words well and have lots of information in sentences and notes. This preference is for information displayed as words.
From the beginning of English 1301, I have gained the appropriate skills and variety of knowledge in writing. I've learned different ways to make my writing effective through techniques taught throughout the semester. From "showing" instead of "telling", interpreting the rhetorical triangle, and using rhetorical devices, I have learned to use all of these skills effectively in my writing. One skill I was able to to use effectively was learning got to "show" instead of "tell". Before this class had began, I was accustomed to writing essays with narrow ideas.
I was able to write the words and letters down with minor errors the problem was writing well enough for you to understand what I wrote. In Guyana my parents had a class called dictation; it was basically writing down what the teacher wrote on the board. This was to improve your handwriting, and because of their teachings they made me go through they’re dictation and I would just write a page out of their book and if it didn’t look good enough they would make me do it all over again. And when I would do my homework in school and my handwriting wasn’t neat they would make me redo
Going into AP English class, I knew there would much to learn and that I had much room to grow. After looking back critically over the work I had done throughout the first semester of my junior year, I realized that I have already come a long way. After looking back at the comments Mr. Murphy had written about my writings and the notes I had made to myself, I noticed that my conclusions, thesis, organization, word and verb choice needed work. In contrast, some positive aspects about my writings were good insights, citations and flow. When looking back on my old free responses the reoccurring weaknesses were my conclusions and thesis statements.
I try to write my journal entries to the best of my abailty because I cant see a lot fwhen I’m trying to wtite or type. My mom sometimes reads my entries, and she’ll tell me the mistakes I make because there tends to be a lot. To add on to my spelling ability, my grades have been slowly slipping. I have always tried my best at everything when it comes to school. Always had good grades, and even though the doctor told me tourettes would not affect my intelligence, it
This forum I learned from chapter eight where I stand when it comes to self-efficacy, from reading chapter nine talking about courage, and How unemployment has to do with many things. I will look at what I learned from these, how I will use this information in other parts of life, and finally what else I would like to learn about from this forum. Self–efficacy never really made sense to me until I started taking this class. I also found it refreshing how the book explained self-efficacy by comparing it to The Little Engine That Could. When it was compered, it helped me understand more and found it easier to understand when reading.
I do it carefully and seek answers and information first before doing anything, which also makes me inquisitive. As a student, I am also balanced. I always come to a point that I balance everything in school even though when it comes to studies, arts & crafts and social life. Being a thinker may be a possible weakness for me because I usually tend to overthink possibilities. Although I am already able to choose from choices, make decisions, and distinguish whether it’s good or bad.
