Goleman felt that there were two aspects in emotional intelligence (Goleman, 2010). First, he felt that individually a person had to understand themselves along with their goals, intentions, responses and behavior. Secondly, we need to understand others and their feelings, not just our own. Basically, how to we handle ourselves in any situation that presents itself to us is a good measure for emotional intelligence. For example, John Miller has to give a speech on a touchy subject in front a crowd of people that he has never met before. How does he handle this? It takes emotional intelligence for a person to get a read on the people in the room and then react accordingly. Emotional intelligence is important because it affects ones work, physical and mental health along with the relationships that we have. IQ’s help a person get into college, but it is ones emotional intelligence that helps one manage the stress that comes with writing essays or thesis papers. There are ways that one can enhance their emotional intelligence and decision making abilities, which is to reduce stress, use humor to help face challenges and to resolve conflicts in a positive…show more content…
This particular test had a total of one-hundred and forty-six questions. The test was not hard to do, but towards the end I began to get a little antsy due to the fact that test taking process seemed to slow down and take more time. This was probably due the fact that I was beginning to get tired and sleepy. Taking the test at an earlier time would have probably been a better choice. The test was graded on a scale of 0 to 100. At the end of my test I scored a 66, which I felt was low, average. I felt in my heart and mind that I was better than that score. I do not like to fight or argue. I am the peacemaker of the bunch, to which I have been in my earlier years as a child. The printout said that I was “reasonably skilled” when it comes to the core ability of identifying, perceiving and expressing emotions in myself and to others. But, there is still room for me to
