Sociology Final Exam 3. Name and describe the three main types of feminism discussed in class. In your opinion, which type of feminism most accurately captures the cause in gender inequality in contemparary society? I wanted to write about this topic because it is the one I personally struggle with the most. To say that I'm a Radical feminist; I always thought gave the impression of some man-hating, angry woman. It states that man and woman are born different and always will be different. Their worlds are so far apart in what they think or how they act. The radical feminst may believe there is no common ground with a man.. They are just too different. Now a Social feminst holds on to the belief that it is not our genetic make-up that seperates us from the other sex; but more that society has its own values on the matter. A social feminst may feel helpless in a world that already has it designed to see her male counterpart more superior. The structure of the community has already established males in the most prestigous, professional, and fulling roles. There is certainly not much a social feminist can do; but play along in the role already assigned for her. The Liberal feminist probably has the most relaxed, tolerable views on the the subject. I believe she is aware there are certain things she cannot achieve as a female, but is content with the oppurtunities she does have. The thought of some kind of gender inequality is way in the back of her mind. Nothing like a Radical feminist who sees the injustice on a daily level.. The liberal feminist would be a an extremely sucsessful woman; she may even hold a high position at her place of employment. But she also is aware of her limitations. She would never apply for the position of president- she's lucky to be the vice president. I found it hard to find a certain type of feminism I could relate to. But after much
