Unit 203 Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s setting Outcome 1 Understand the Importance of Equality and Inclusion 1.1 Diversity is about acknowledging and respecting an individuals differences, diversity recognises that although people have things in common with each other, every individual is also different in many ways, Diversity consists of many factors. Equality means to treat everyone equally in a way that is appropriate to their needs. Discrimination is the prejudicial treatment of an individual based on their membership in a certain group or category. Inclusion is seen as a universal human right and aims at embracing all people irrespective of race, gender, disability, medical or other needs. It is about giving equal access and opportunities and getting rid of discrimination and intolerance.
Diversity is about recognising and valuing everyone’s culture, personality, age, race, sex, disability, gender, religion and beliefs. * Equality – treating people in a way that is appropriate for their needs. Making sure people are treated fairly and given fair chances. Recognise their needs and that they are met in different ways. * Inclusion – equal opportunities for everyone whatever their age, gender, ethnicity, to be included.
Equality act is applied to my role because I believe everyone should be treated equal no matter what race, believes they may have. Sex discrimination act is applied to my role because I don’t treat men and different than I would a woman. Everyone should be treated like equals. Race relations act is applied to my role because I don’t judge anyone by their race and believes. Codes of practice.
Equality:- Equality is treating everyone equal regardless of their, colour, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation or disability. It is different to treating people the same. Different people have different needs, this should be honored. All people have equal opportunities and the same rights under the law and the rights to services provided by the government on the basis of their needs. There should be open access to health services allowing every service user to receive treatment on the basis of their needs.
Equality means giving equal rights and opportunities to access education, employment and the community life. Inclusion - Each individual has the right to be included in society and to not be segregated under any of the protected 7 grounds. 1.2 - The potential effects of discrimination can vary depending on how long the discriminating behaviour has been going on, for example the beginning stages of being discriminated against can lead to low
1.1a) Diversity simply means a variety of things. It is understanding that each individual is unique, and recognising our individual differences. These can range from race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs. It is the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive and nurturing environment. 1.1b) Equality simply means equal rights for people regardless of what factors they might have that are different.

The definitions of equality, diversity and inclusion are as follows- Equality is to treat all as individuals; to respect race, disability, age, gender, religion, beliefs, culture and sexual orientation. For all to be open to opportunities, to be treated fairly and respectfully, have rights and equal status in society and for all to reach their full potential. Diversity is to value that we are all unique and yet similar.
An equality approach understands who we are, based on social categories such as gender, race, disability, religion, sexuality and age. Promoting equality should remove discrimination. Inclusion is used to promote the fact that all people should be freely and openly accommodated without restrictions or limitations of any kind. Inclusion is about valuing all individuals, giving equal access and opportunity to all and removing discrimination. Discrimination can make an individual feel in many different ways.
Champion Equality, Diversity and Inclusion SHC53 Understand diversity, equality and inclusion in own area of responsibility 1.1 What do we mean by diversity, equality and inclusion? Diversity refers to groups within society. Different groups can be linked to; * gender * ethnicity * social background * cultural background * religion and beliefs * family structure * race * disabilities * age * appearances * sexuality * economic status Equality refers to individuals being treated as equals, and allowing all to have the same opportunities, and to be treated with respect and dignity and to be given the same opportunities to achieve. Inclusion is the process that includes all, while ensuring that the needs of the individuals are met, whilst overcoming the barriers to prevent everyone participating. Social Model The favoured model that is linked to my work is the social model, which focuses on the child or individual and not on their disability, ethnicity, gender, social background, ect; this model looks at the environment as the problem and not the individual thus enabling them independence and empowerment.
Understand the importance of diversity, equality and inclusion. In societal terms diversity is defined as the concept of encompassment concerning assorted and varied bodies, particularly within a community or other congregational entity. Put simply, diversity may be translated as the collection of different things; diversity literally means difference. 1.1 Equality is the notion of all participants within a system maintaining the same rights and opportunities as one another, ethically or otherwise, whilst being exempt from discrimination. Inclusion, in laymen's terms is the involvement of all parties regardless of ethnic, age, status, or sexual boundaries.
