From the ones that have half naked girls in them to the ones informing you of how many people die annually from cigarettes. This particular advertisement stuck out to me because in a way it shows both. As mentioned before, cigarettes are a common habit among the people, in a very big way. Some smoke because they need to and others because its a habit they formed when they were teens and they just can’t seem to stop. Well, this advertisement shows that entirely.
Lung cancer, bronchitis, and heart diseases are all effects of smoking tobacco. Smoking tobacco can also cause changes in mood and rotting of the teeth. These effects are especially bad the younger the smoker, as it can very easily stunt or damage children’s development. Use of tobacco by teenagers is increasing each year. As stated by The American Lung Association, nearly 6,000 children under the age 18 start smoking, and about 2,000 will become regular smokers.
For example, some parents have arguments or fights most of the time which cause stress for their children, and sometimes parents don’t give enough time to their children. Some parents even get divorced and live separately from each other, in this situation, teens don’t get the equal time, love and care they should have. Teenagers want to have a sense of belongingness which they don’t receive from their families, so they turn to their friends or even gang members. Another reason that teenagers join gangs is drug addiction. Teens’ minds are not developed enough to see the difference between enjoyment and physical damage, so that they use harmful drugs for fun.

The impact that the media in the United States has on the minds of the youth has changed into an increasingly dangerous issue. While the media has many positive influences there are still yet many negative behaviors exercised by many teenagers and young adults. Amongst these behaviors is the acceptance of how sex is ok amongst teenagers. The media has become a pool of promiscuity which has led to the spread of many STD’s including HIV and AIDS. This essay describes how the media has led to the rise in promiscuity and thus leading to the continuous growth of the HIV Pandemic giving other countries a reason to believe that the people in the United States have poor cultural values.
Imitating the actions of parents is one of the ways that teens learn about smoking marijuana. “Easier access to marijuana provided by the new state law allowing the drug for medical treatment may be a factor in teens smoking more marijuana” (Reuters, 2013). Parent's that have a prescription for medical marijuana may smoke around their home, telling their children it is for medical use failing to recognize their child's peers use the drug for recreational purposes. By knowing their parents smoke marijuana and witnessing their peers do the same thing with no immediate adverse affects, teens are more apt to experiment with the drug. Marijuana use has many dangerous side effects even after one has stopped using the drug.
II. Body A. Problem: Tobacco use is a vicious cycle with people getting addicted and dying. 1. Tobacco is highly addictive a. Nicotine is the most addictive drug available (Donatelle, 2010) b. Genetics play a role in the speed of addiction.
When Lane says, “ Recreational use is not the smartest thing” I absolutely agree. A lot of adolescents start smoking marijuana because they are peer pressured. The more they do it, the more they seem to want to keep doing it to “fit in”. It seems that the earlier someone is to start smoking marijuana the more decided they are about legalizing it. Legalizing marijuana would make our government look terrible; because marijuana is a drug that most people use to “escape” or just because they like the feeling.
As far as I am concerned, alcohol can a lot of problems particular for teenagers, therefore the legal drinking age in Australia should be raised. Excessively drinking alcohol is not only a dangerous attempt for adults, but also the under-aged, like you and me. The reason is alcohol effectively damages our brain. A recent study completed by Professor Ian Hickie showed that the brain continues to develop right through until the late teenage and early adult period. One of the most toxic things that a young brain can encounter is a high level of blood alcohol.
And frequently it is something they choose to do specifically instead of alcohol. And for their own reason! Alcohol is more toxic, more addictive, more harmful to the body, more likely to result in injuries, and more likely to lead to interpersonal violence than marijuana. Many people die from alcohol use. Nobody dies from marijuana use.
