Every night I go to bed around 2345. I try to go to bed earlier but I always just lie in bed not able to sleep. Sometimes it’s because of the stress from the day before other times its from my experiences when I was deployed to Iraq. I was deployed for 12 months and while I was there I did some things that I’m not proud of but they needed to be done to complete the mission and ensure everyone came back safely. Since coming back from Iraq I haven’t been able to sleep well.
Sleep and psychology are very closely related in that psychology studies mental processes and behavior, while sleep effects the wellness and health of those mental processes and behavior. These studies will present the facts needed to properly understand the negative effect poor amounts of sleep can cause on cognition, as well as the relationship between cognitive training and sleep quality. Sleep-Deprivation “The National Sleep Foundation (2005) reported that even among the general population, 75% of adults regularly experience at least one symptom of sleep disturbance a few nights a week” (Peachey, Zelman, 2012, p.18). Because sleep disturbance can lead to such a wide array of medical

The elderly clients I care for generally have ill health, the illnesses they suffer from can be physical and mental. Physical illness ranges from minor life limiting illness like obesity, to illness that prevents clients from leaving their bed, and are cared for in bed. Mental health illness ranges from minor confusion to extreme paranoia and various levels of dementia. The diverse needs of my client group mean that I have to be aware of individual needs every time I am work and have to develop my own ways of communicating with clients , these ways have to be assessed on every shift as the nature of the client group means the client will have good days and bad days. So although I may have individual ways of communicating they have to be reassessed every shift to ensure they are still relevant.
Daydreaming happens more often than some. If daydreams are recognized and interpretation of a dreams happen just the slightest bit, it is possible to take advantage of the dream world and control it. Imagine feeling a constant drag every single day believe it or not people do feel like that every day because of a sleep disorder called insomnia. In an online article Andrew Weil, M.D explained “Insomnia is a relatively common sleep disorder, affecting about one third of the adult population worldwide.” (2011) In addition to not being able to sleep at night, insomnia will also cause drowsy effects and frequent falling asleep during the day. This will have a drastic affect if working is the activity or something that requires full attention.
The most important biological activity occurring in all humans and animal species is sleep. The average person will have spent a cumulative total of between 20 and 25 years asleep by 70 years of age. Sleep affects many of behavioral and physiological functions, such as memory, cognitive ability, immune function and hormone secretion. Sleep deprivation has been found to have numerous effects on both behavioral and physiological functioning. Moreover, the effects will be cumulative, so a mild reduction in sleep per night can be after a period of time, result in significant functional deficits.
However, our bodies are effectively paralysed, said to be nature's way of preventing us from acting out our dreams. After REM sleep, the whole cycle begins again. REM sleep The first rapid eye movement (REM) period usually begins about 70 to 90 minutes after we fall asleep. We have around three to five REM episodes a night. Although we are not conscious, the brain is very active - often more so than when we are awake.
There have been studies suggesting the environment affects some biological factors. This essay will attempt to offer a considered and balanced review on two effects of the environment on physiological processes, supported by research studies, which investigate both effects. The two effects of the environment on physiological processes that will be discussed include the relationship between how zeitgebers affect circadian cycle and sleep, the effects stress has on our immune system. Why do people who do night shifts feel increasingly tired? Why does long flights sometimes cause us to feel increasingly tired?
Sleeping disorders can cause serious health issues, mentally, emotionally, and physically, and with over 100 different types of sleep disorders, and more being researched, there comes multiple causes. Sleep disorders can range from difficulty sleeping at night, to problems with excessive daytime sleepiness, not only does it have a negative impact on a person’s mood, but also their energy, concentration, and overall health. There are multiple causes to sleep disorders ranging from stress and anxiety, to respiratory problems, allergies, chronic pain, and much more. With such causes come multiple effects, two out of the hundred of effects are called insomnia, and sleep apnea. These two sleep disorders are the topics I am going to cover, and what causes each.
