Significant moments in our lives are often not foreseen. Leaving the kindergarten, learning to read and write, passing the final examinations in high school, and starting our first job are the examples of some of these memorable events which are stored in our mind for good. No doubt, these events mean a great challenge, but I know that good things always come from bad. Life was going great! I had an amazing family, a fantastic job that I loved and great friends. I had just moved back home because I was feeling a little left out of the family life. To my surprise, I learned from my youngest sister that my dad had a something on his leg that he was trying to hide from all of us. As I started doing things with my family again, I noticed that my dad walked funny and was always taking pain killers. Afraid to ask him about it, I ignored the evidence before my eyes and assumed his knee was just bothering him from a surgery he had years before. My father was a very private and stubborn man as well as a very humorous one. He never told too much information to anyone and if he did it was always in a joke so that the other person didn’t really know if it was true or not. He loved to talk to people and lived his life based on the philosophy that it isn't what you do, but who you know that really matters in the world. I still cringe at the thought of such an idea. I was never the one to go after people. I wasn't the type of person who you would interview when composing a "How to Win Friends and Influence People" book. I was just being myself. I remember riding in the car with him when I was young, and, wanting to listen to some music, I would turn on the radio. Well, it took no longer than a few minutes for him to switch the radio off, so he could talk to me about my future plans. I would roll my eyes for fear of the long dreaded conversation coming up.
