”A Lady” is a poem written by an imagist poet Amy Lowell. It is a descriprion of a woman. The speaker shows his or her admiration for the lady, focusing on different aspects of her beauty. The person describes how she or he sees the lady. The woman is said to be beautiful although she is not very young. The comparison to the tune played on a musical intsrument in an opera makes the reader think, that it is a mature woman described. It might also suggest that her voice is not strong and loud anymore. However, the Lady is also delicate like silk, classy and maybe a bit old-fashioned (like an ”eighteenth-century boudoir”). Then, we have a closer look on her face. Her eyes show that the Lady is old. They are not bright and shiny, but rather faded. Her sight is probably not as good as it used to be, when she was younger. However, Lady's eyes are still really pretty like roses.…show more content…
It is more difficult to speak of her inner beauty. At first, ”perfume of your soul” might reminds us of something delicate and nice. But later, we get to know that this smell is rather heavy and spreads everywhere, becomes even disturbing. It may be the scent of an elderly person mixed with the heavy odor of perfume. It is as unpleasant as a jar full of different spices. Perhaps the woman is not an easy and entertaining person. She might have been through a lot in her life, she is experienced and has some knowledge. It perhaps had an influence on the way she looks now. No matter what, she is still a
