Our society attaches a negative stigma to being older, and there are indeed many unpleasant things about being old. There are health problems to worry about, kids to worry about, and perhaps mental and physical abilities take a dive. However, it is true that older people often describe that latest years of the life as the most satisfactory. Perhaps this work of art is an attempt to undo the negative stigma associated with being old in our society and get people to recognize the fact that there is beauty to being old. Many of us fear losing the thick, lustrous quality of our youthful hair and seeing our hair get gray.
But the biggest difference with her is that achieving her looks may be highly unlikely. What is accepted to society has gone from being beautiful as a woman, to being a beautiful woman. Beowulf is a story of glory, bravery, heroism, and revenge. A reflection of the Anglo-Saxon ideals. Also reflected in the story of Beowulf is the treatment of women during the Anglo-Saxon time period. Though they play a small role, women are in some ways critical to the story of Beowulf. Women play a small but important part in Beowulf and are often viewed as inferior.
The most popular ones have the beautiful girl getting married and having a happy ending, but what about the lesser-known ones? Why aren’t they as popular? Most people haven’t heard of fairy tales like The Robber Bridegroom or other stories like it. This could possibly be because the heroine breaks the mold of the gender stereotype girls are placed in. She is cunning, resourceful, and brave.

This is due to the response of the women described in the poems. The similarities include unique cultural beliefs. That effected the way love was understood and acted upon within the writings. At the start you think she is a nice girl and she is described as beautiful. This changes throughout the play, obviously her appearance doesn't change but she is no longer beautiful when you learn that she has such a sly heart. The insecurities of Maggie’s character are not just skin deep, much like my own. Her older sister Dee is very flamboyant and educated, both of which are threatening to Maggie who “eyes her with a mixture of envy and awe” (297). Maggie is intimidated by those around her whom she feels are better than she is. Although my insecurity is not as extreme as Maggie’s I still at times feel ashamed of the way I look or am susceptible to those around me. However as previously stated in my comparison to the character of Amanda I often mask this insecurity through a more confident persona, which Maggie’s character does not do.
The first painting mentioned, “Girl with a Pearl Earring” by Johannes Vermeer, the speaker made a research on the painting. There was a doubt about the conflicted look on the face of the girl in the painting. There is an intimate look on her face. There were suggestions that she was the daughter or the painter. However, she points out that she was actually the lovely servant of the painter which there is an intimate relationship between both of them.
