That being said anyone who is religious would feel uncomfortable while watching “Religulous”. The name to me was well thought out but offensive, “Religulous” a portmanteau or blend of the two words, religion and ridiculous. To me the movie should have actually been called “Christian Bashing Featuring Some Other Religions for Split Seconds” by Bill Maher. I wrote down many of his questionable quotes that are almost intelligent. Bill Maher is a smart individual but an agnostic can only promote what they know which means not very much when it comes to religion.
Paul Tillich argues against the literal theologians and the social scientists as well. He says that “religion has rediscovered its true place in man’s spiritual life, namely, in its depth, out of which it gives substance, ultimate meaning, judgment and creative courage to all functions of the human spirit.” (Tillich 9) In my opinion and it may be clouded by my religion, which is Christianity, is that God does exist and one will not
McCloskey contended against the three mystical verifications, which are the cosmological argument, the argument from design and the teleological argument. He called attention to the presence of evil on the planet that God made. He likewise called attention to that it is irrational to live by trust or faith. As indicated by McCloskey, confirmations do not essentially assume a fundamental part in the conviction of God. Page 62 of the article expresses that "most theists do not come to have faith in God as a premise for religious conviction, however come to religion as a consequence of different reasons and variables."
Understanding religions in general can be very complex. There are different personal interpretations therefore creating a wide variety of religious denominations. When I was given the opportunity to learn about a religion that I knew nothing about I was nervous, because I would consider myself to be a spiritual person not a religious person. I decided to learn more about the Mormon religion and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have to admit I have heard some negative stereotypes regarding the Mormon religion, so I felt I had a responsibility to learn more and find out for myself what the Mormon religion was truly about.
One does not understand the other, and vice versa. Neither wants to give an inch to the other on specific issues, in fear of admitting that they are wrong. Much of this comes from the radical view points of both beliefs in an effort to maintain control and the status quo of their people. But they do not realize that with the birth of technology, knowledge can be spread faster and reach a bigger crowd. Although many internet "trolls" as they call them, are open minded and exceed the expectation of varied beliefs on multiple different areas of politics and religion, both science and religion have begun to use these same methods of education for their own purposes, keeping the ignorant people of their belief all the more ignorant.
Hare also responds to the falsification principle, showing that religious statements are meaningful even though they cannot be falsified because they have a significant impact for the people using the statement. Religious believers adopt bliks for example “god is a loving father” cannot be falsified but it is still meaningful because of the
This is especially true of Christianity. In short it can be said that theology works on religion. Theology is in fact based on religion. It is a system of studying about God especially Christian religion. Religion does not deal with any sort of rational analysis.
Integrative approaches to Psychology and Christianity 4 MAT review Jennifer M. Liberty University Summary David N. Entwistle’ Integrative approaches to Psychology and Christianity, an introduction to worldview issues philosophical foundations and modes of integration, describes the history of integrating Christianity and psychology. He describes how Christians acknowledged science however when science interfered with God’s word and works, Christians began to reprimand those who attempted to provide empirical data. Tertullian believed that there were two forms of seeking knowledge through Athens human reason or Jerusalem faith (Entwistle, 2010, pg 8). Harry Blamires provided
Therefore, it supports a focus for fair science project questions, hypothesis, and designs that perform and assess the experiment. It is unfortunate that from a Christian worldview perspective, many Christians accept that Christianity is non-scientific. Why? They stand on the biblical principle that “all truth is Gods’ truth.” This researcher finds this statement to true and accurate as a fellow Christian, although some Christians stand by it without thoroughly researching the
Summary In the book, Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity, Entwistle examines two disciplines that share an interest in how human beings function. He goes in depth about the worldviews, models of integration, and philosophical foundations that shape the relationship between psychology and theology. Both disciplines are very helpful in understanding human beings and can be integrated as long as the methodologies and fundamental teachings do not contradict each other. Whether we find the truth through psychology or the Bible “all truth is God’s truth, so that where and however truth is discovered, its author is God” (Entwistle, 2010 p.13). Many people would not agree that Christianity and theology cannot be integrated, but in actuality it can.
