Savannah and Black Throated- monitors Steven Raynor Junior English Comp.1 Sharon Carmack June, 18 2012 1 Savannah and Black throated - monitors are the two reptiles I’m going to compare and contrast for you. They both are part of the monitor family which is one of the oldest and largest species on the planet. Even though they are part of the same family they both have some differences and they share some likenesses as well. First off the Savannah monitor mainly lives in the grass lands of central Africa, generally found in Senegal, Northern Zaire, Ghana, Eritrea and Togo, while the Black throated-monitor is mainly found in the woodlands area of East-Africa near Tanzania. Savannahs and Black throated-monitors have mild temperaments. Even though they live on separate parts of the same continents they thrive in hot humid habitats. They both make good pets for the people that are looking into getting a trainable and docile reptile. They both also need at least a cage that is twice the size of them if they grow that big. Usually Savannah and Black throats live about ten years but do, to poor care and bad cages they usually don’t make it more than a year in captivity. While they both need a basking spot of 130 F or more and a high elevated spot to achieve better basking. Also Savannahs and Black throated –monitors make great pets to the people that are allergic to dogs and cats. They also don’t need much attention like dogs and cats do so when you’re too busy to give them your full attention they will be fine. They both hibernate when the temperature in there environments are not hot enough. Has you read about the Savannah and Black throated-monitors I hope you see even though they are part of the same family they both have unique traits. I personally owned both as pets and with proper care they can be very fun pets to owe. Savannahs and Black throats also being part of the monitor family deserve a lot of respect they both can easily out muscle you if they feel threated.
