Describe and discuss EACH stage involved in the recruitment and Selection process, explaining why it is crucial to follow each stage and the pitfalls of not following each stage ? Ans: There are various stages involved in the recruitment and selection process. It is important for an organisation to follow these stages in order to reach their organisational goals through effective use of human resources. These stages include: • Identifying the vacancy: The organisation must look at exactly what position or positions need to be filled and how many people are required. If this is not done correctly, it is possible that the wrong person or people and the wrong amount of people will be hired. • Setting out job description and person specifications: The HR manager must set out a clear description of what the job entails and the type of person and they are looking for, in order for the position to be filled effectively. Not doing this properly can result in ambiguity as to the kind of skillsets required to fulfil the position. • Managing response: Applications need to be reviewed properly to ensure they meet the requirements of the vacancy. If they are not read correctly, it is possible the wrong person will be selected, resulting in a lot of time being wasted throughout the rest of the recruitment process. • Shortlisting: The managers must decide who they are going to consider for interview, this will involve picking out certain skillsets on applicants CV, that suit the vacancy requirements, choosing the strongest candidates and setting aside others that don’t appear as suitable. If shortlisting is not done, it may result in a high volume of candidates selected for interview, which may take too much time. • Arranging Interviews: The selected candidates need to be contacted and a suitable time arranged for interview.
