Reasons of Going Back to College Many years ago, a large number of people were content with just a high school diploma, and this was sufficient for them to find a job. But today, who wants to limit himself by not going back to college? Many people decide to go back to college for numerous reasons such as have more job opportunities, more money and to expand their knowledge base. The first reason for going back to college is to have more job opportunities. The world is changing rapidly and many people are tired of being at the same job for a long time. Some people that want to change their jobs find many obstacles. For example, better jobs require education beyond high school. A Bachelor's degree is a requirement for many jobs, and also other jobs require specialized skills, knowledge and practical training that only a college degree and program can provide. A college degree often puts a person in a better position and demonstrates that he or she has the discipline to finish a task. Another cause for returning to college is to earn more money. It is common that college graduates make more money than those who only complete high school. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median yearly income for someone with a bachelor's degree is $55,432. In contrast a high school graduates earn $33,904, approximately a difference of $21,528. In general, the greater level of education people complete, the more likely they are to earn more money. People with only a high school diploma often have fewer choices in life. For example, high school graduates are more likely to depend on government services than bachelor’s degree holders. The last reason for returning is to expand one’s knowledge base. People with a high school diploma are missing a lot of knowledge unlike people who are having bachelor’s degree.
