Nicholas McCary Environmental Health June 12, 2014 Unit 10 Environmental health to me is a branch of public health that is concerned with all aspects of the natural and built environment that may affect human health. It also has other concerns such as public health environmentally and public health protection and environmental health protection. Environmental health addresses all the physical, chemical, and biological factors external to a person, and all the related factors impacting behaviours. It encompasses the assessment and control of those environmental factors that can potentially affect health. It is targeted towards preventing disease and creating health-supportive environments. This definition excludes behaviours not related to environment, as well as behaviours related to the social and cultural environment, and genetics. A healthy city is one that is continually creating and improving those physical and social environments and expanding those community resources which enable people to mutually support each other in performing all the functions of life and developing to their maximum potential. A Healthy City aims to: * to create a health-supportive environment, * to achieve a good quality of life, * to provide basic sanitation & hygiene needs, * to supplies access to health care. Being a Healthy City depends not on current health infrastructure, rather upon, a commitment to improve a city's environs and a willingness to forge the necessary connections in political, economic and social arenas. Cities wishing to become a National Hygienic City have to go through a series of campaigns in order to climb up the ladder, step-by-step. The campaigns focus on health education, city appearance, environmental sanitation, public hygiene, the cleanliness of drinking water, food hygiene and infectious disease control, among others.
