Later when he redeems himself he tells the Cyclops his name is nobody and gets him drunk. After that he helps his men stab a sharpened log into the Cyclops’ eye. Now showing the other side of Odysseus he helped his men and saved his men from what he got them into in the beginning. He was smart and heroic and saved himself as well as lots of his men that otherwise would have died which is a feat worth recognition. Second, Odysseus can be completely heroic in some situations and be totally unselfish.
Aeneas once again proves his piety prevails, as he does not let Juno's efforts to destroy his fleet discourage him. Although, his piety survives Juno's attacks, he is very disgruntled by his fate and he does not hide his feelings. Aeneas deems "luckier were those who died before their parents under Troy's high walls" (1. 112-113). He utterly envies the men who died in the Trojan War, wishing he could be so lucky, as to die behind the walls.
His tactics were much improved as he had the presence of mind to only send three men to investigate the island and then to force those three men back of the island after they had eaten the lotus flowers that put them in a forgetful mood. To then leave the islands with no casualty’s was a sign of a good leader. Another example of Odysseus being either a good or bad leader is the adventure to the Cyclops called Polythemus Island. I am unsure if Odysseus was successful or not with this matter because he showed signs of great
Fourth, they stabbed him in the eye with a gigantic sharp stick. Fifth, Odysseus being the smart man he is told the Cyclops that his name was “Nobodhy” so he wouldn’t know his real identity. Now how smart is that? He’s also being brave since he is trusting Circe coming up with a plan that may not even work. Another example shown in “The Odyssey” is Odysseus trusting the herdsmen with his secret saying that he was Odysseus and that he’s is finally back home.
He is a leader of men by he encouraged his men to stay strong even though the times were tough. He is concern for his men by rescuing them from the Circe who turned them into swine. His flaws include boastful and voracious for experience. Odysseus’s voracious to see a Cyclopes or wait for him in his cave got him and his men into trouble. Also, he puts his crew in jeopardy when he boasting how he tricked Polyphemus.
As he is saying this, his hubris is beginning to creep up on him because he thinks he is the best person ever after tricking Polyphemus. His crew is seeing this and begins to warn him of what is happening (Homer 769) yet he disregards their warnings. His hubris then takes full control as he says, “Cyclops, / if ever mortal man inquire / how you were put to shame and blinded, tell him / Odysseus, raider of cities, took your eye: / Laertes’ son, whose home
Like persuading the crowd to go against the conspirators by saying the quote,” Brutus is wise Brutus is noble…” and putting all the blame on Lepidus for his actions. He also has some loyalty but very different then Brutus’s loyalty. He is loyal to his friends but not so loyal to Rome. How might you say he is loyal to his friends, he goes and avenges Caesar’s death by turning everyone against the conspirators. Mark was also brave unlike Brutus he fights to the death on the battlefield and doesn’t give up.
He shows this by being proactive in moving away from his father Polybus, a Dorian, and his mother Merope, of Corinth. He moves away from them because it is his fate to murder his father. Oedipus had the ability to solve the riddle of the sphinx and saved the lives of the Thebians. He also bans concerns at the beginning of the plague. 3: Oedipus Rex suffers awful downfalls on his journey to become the tragic hero he is today.
Odysseus: A True Heroic Figure “But I would not give way.” This simple, yet strong, inspiring quote was stated on page 218 of book 9 of the Odyssey by the heroic figure Odysseus, when his crew members were ready to take everything they could escape with and avoid confrontation with the menacing Cyclops. Even though this six letter quote is short and to the point, it shows how determined Odysseus really is. I believe that Odysseus is a strong heroic figure in Greek mythology. His best qualities that reflect his heroic character are his cleverness, caring heart for his crew members, and his strong determination. Although this crafty hero has many other great qualities, these qualities are the highlights of his character.
Rainsford in the beginning had no sympathy for the hunted and seemed like a cruel man. Rainsford though changes to a hero once he faces Zaroff, but Rainsford beats the general at his own game and kills him. With the death of the General, Rainsford had saved the lives of those who would visit the island in the future. This was because Rainsford had shown heroic qualities with his battle against Zaroff. Such as courage, if Rainsford
