In doing so, the author will try to analyse the aspects that empower the midwife as well as how clinical autonomy is enabled in each setting. The report has been written specifically for those midwives who believe that it is more advantageous to work at a MLU rather than CLU as it allows them to practice more autonomously. It aims to demonstrate that it is possible to challenge the boundaries of midwifery regardless of the clinical setting. For this to happen a change in attitudes among the midwives who work in a CLU is required, thus hoping to increase awareness of what is possible in a hospital culture and what is actually already happening BACKGROUND The “Changing Childbirth Report” launched by the Department of Health (1993) emphasised the importance of woman-centre care. One of the points discussed was the choice of women regarding where they gave birth.
Abstract Planning and delegating nursing care efficiently and effectively is an essential skill for all registered nurses to develop and master. The nursing process will assist the registered nurse to effectively plan and implement nursing interventions as well as to appropriately delegate nursing interventions to co-workers. Additionally, following the professional standards for nurses will assist in safely managing a patient load. Equally important is the use of communication. Effective communication is essential to ensure patient safety and positive outcomes, as is effective communication between nurses and the multidisciplinary team.
Personal Philosophy of Nursing Abstract Nursing philosophy is one of the core aspects in the provision of healthcare services. My personal nursing philosophy seeks to enhance the provision of efficient care to all patients. I believe human nature is the fundamental aspect that governs the type of care a nurse provides to a patient. Additionally, I believe that it is my responsibility as a nurse to uphold human dignity in my interaction with patients. I should learn to perceive the world from a client’s perspective to ensure that I gain the trust of the patient an aspect that places me in a better position to educate the patient.
Nursing literature is readily available and easy to access. Many research publications on the subject of maintenance of a healthy workplace can be accessed through different search engines. The Joint Commission has been encouraging hospitals seeking accreditation to address the issue about disruptive behavior among staff members (Longo, 2010). Which brings up the importance of good communication in the work place. The authors of Kupperschmidt, et al., support the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics that states “professional nurses have an ethical mandate to become skilled communicators” and continue suggesting that enhances their ability to interact respectfully with all team members and to attain and
A. Promoting Interdisciplinary Care A new nurse supervisor can promote interdisciplinary care by getting the attention of everyone in the clinic. A meeting with everyone in attendance is a good way to make sure everyone hears the same information and questions can be asked in front of everyone. The supervisor could organize this by sending an email to everyone about the meeting and telling them it is mandatory. Also, putting signs up in the break room and scheduling it in everyone’s schedule.
The article was able to analyze the background which showed that the leadership style identified has contributed to create a healthy work environment. The article discusses transformational leadership, its relationship in influencing nurses, employee outcome of self-efficacy with the improvement in the work environment. The Leadership Style The leadership being discussed is transformational leadership. It is a leadership style which has high leadership components including; behavior influence, motivational inspiration, individual consideration and the dimension of psychosocial work environment. The hypothesis tested and proved that transformational leadership has a positive correlation between the style and the work environment.
According to Taylor, Lillis, LeMone, and Lynn’s book Fundamentals of Nursing, “Nurses should respect patients’ will and be loyal to them at any time as well as carefully evaluate the competing claims of the patient’s autonomy” (Taylor p.103). Even under the pressure of other healthcare faculty, as nurses, we should find out the optimum ways to follow patents’ thought rather than decide right or wrong for them. Therefore, nurses should never sacrifice patients’ rights to ease ourselves. In order to advocate patients’ rights, nurses should question improper acts. Hence, nurses have the responsibility to advocate patients and help them out.
Through advocacy patients feel they are not alone and there is someone who will stand beside them and for them to offer support to gain their autonomy. To be autonomous means to be in control of one’s life (Johnstone, 2008). Patients have the need for advocacy when they are unable to advocate for themselves because they are too ill or they are unable to make their own medical decisions. Nurses spend the most time with hospitalised patients and are therefore more able to assess their needs. An advocate needs to provide an open and supportive atmosphere in which the patient feels free to express their ideas and beliefs.
This can be accomplished through continuous monitoring, evaluation of any activities that need improvement. For example some hospitals have QI teams made up of nurses, physicians and other healthcare workers. These teams’ helps in ensuring QI are done in an efficient manner. According to (L.Long, 2003) “Influencing nurses to accept and implement best practice and continuous quality improvement into everyday nursing activities and to change practice is a significant challenge for any nursing service.” I believe including nursing in quality improvement teams can help influence them into

Usually quality improvements are viewed by staff as another workload added onto an already busy workload.
