The main purpose of stage one is to build a non-threatening counselling relationship, help the client explore their situation and then be able to focus on chose issues. At this point the helper/listener helps the client to identify problems and then assess their own resources. At this stage most people are reluctant to change and may resist. Through positive exploration of new perspectives and constructive challenges to rooted negativity the client is able to move to the next stage. Some of the stage one exploring skills include; Open ended questioning, silences, focusing, empathy, paraphrasing, structuring and summarising.
(p.16) My primary aim was to learn but I also achieved a measure of resolve with my problem. My feelings before, during and after the session are analysed and discussed, the session is summarised, the key skills used by Annie and their impact on me are identified and challenges for the counsellor and the client are identified with suggestions for strategies to best manage these challenges. Verbatim dialogue from the session is provided throughout the essay as examples and, finally, the overall experience is considered I had
Not only will Sylvia be looking at my nonverbal communication, but I will observe her as well. I will make sure that she is giving positive feedback through her gestures. After speaking with her I would simply ask her if I have answered all of her questions and addressed her concerns that she may have had. Hopefully by the end of our meeting she will feel comfortable and will continue her business with LKM
I was given a booklet to study on this subject. When the next opportunity arose I was able to utilise and apply my new skills successfully. At the same time I was able to observe a qualified clinician, who was able to guide my in this new skill. After the job we were able to reflect verbally, and discus different approaches to the same incident, I found this to be very beneficial. After this I wrote a reflective practice essay, I was required to actively research to complete the work successfully, this was to help re review my learner
She will need to review the legal requirements of keeping these records up to date. As a counselor it is important for her to stay consistent with the Code of Conduct (Bemister and Dobson 2011). If she does not stay on top of updating her client case files then adequate services may not be provided. Since Janice is rather new to being a counselor we can find the areas where she is uncomfortable and offer her training classes to help her become more comfortable. We will let her know that there is an open line of communication so if she ever feels uncomfortable or needs assistance on something that she does not feel knowledgeable or confident about then she can always go to a supervisor’s office.
During this I meet on a one-to-one basis with my supervisor – usually a senior support worker. We use a set format supervision which has different sections, one being a section to review tragerts previosly set and one for new targets to be set. I am able to reflect and discuss where I feel my stregths and weaknesses lie and areas I feel I need to develop. Proir to my supervisions my supervisor would have gained feedback from other staff – usually other senior support staff or nurses regarding my work actuvities. As part of my framework I have to obtain witness testimonies to evidence that I have completed
The goals that were talked about in earlier sessions are beginning to be embraced by the client, who is questioning the counsellor more, in an effort to start the changes. Words like “so when are we goal setting please?” And “I really feel you’re helping me see the light” are also affirming statements. Along with this, the client’s appearance may have changed, as may their facial expressions. The positive-ness with which they are starting the sessions also are a dead giveaway. The client may also come to the sessions having drawn up their own plans for progressing.
Cicely: After completing the Discovery Wheel, I was able to become more aware of my studying habits. I was already aware of some of my faults when it comes to studying. But I didn’t realize the correlation between the habits in my health in and money managing skills. I now see that by improving my studying habits is a way to better other area in life. Mario: I see a lot of similarities on how my attitude effects my time management and my ability to commit to reading.
Personal Reflection Paper By: Tamela Wise Due Date: 7/22/12 Course: HUM/111 Instructor: Kimberly Rhodes Critical thinking is a deeper thought about thinking. It is also the ability to think clearly and rationally about something. When you are critical thinking, you are more able to reflect on things with independent thinking. Critical thinking requires a person to put more effort into thinking about a solution or an answer to what a person is thinking about. This process of thinking also requires that a person gather more information, and put more thought into thinking.
I offered my client empathy, understanding and respect. Used open ended questions, actively listened and gently challenged my client when appropriate, remaining aware of boundaries. (2013, BACP) I recorded information to use in supervision, how one response led to another, the nonverbal communication used by my client and my own thoughts as the session proceeded. Supervision was able to give me space to look at my work I had supervision which allowed me to reflect on relating to my client and to gain insights from the perspective of another therapist. (Jacobs, 1998)Supervision offered me three main functions.
