Warren beings her argument by acknowledging that abortion “…usually entails the death of a fetus. ( Social and Personal Ethics: The Moral Status Of Abortion, Marry Anne Warren, Page 109)” Shockingly enough, at least to many individuals, Warren still holds firm that safe abortion is both morally permissible and under no circumstance should be illegal. Warren recognizes that it is almost futile to argue with those who believe that abortion is equivalent to murder unless it is argued that fetuses to not have the same right to life as other human beings. She does this by
The movement of anti-abortion was created and was also expanding. Creating two sides: pro-life which are against abortion, stating that abortion is murder. They believe that the fetus is a person, and has rights like all humans, and shouldn’t be killed. And the other side is pro-choice, entailing that those against abortion are against choice. They don’t see the fetus as an individual, they think that it’s mother’s decision to stay pregnant or not.
Abortion is seen as no different to murder. In the case or Rape or incest, pro-life campaigners argue that the child is the one being punished when it has not committed the crime and that the child is completely innocent and it’s the criminal that instead should be punished. Pro –life campaigners also argue that adoption is an alternative to abortion, and that many people will use abortion as a method of contraception. They argue that there are thousands of people waiting to adopt children, so if a mother decides she doesn’t want her child for any reason she can offer this child through adoption to a suitable
If fetuses are considered to persons with the same moral status as typical adult humans, opponents of abortion would tend to make the argument that “Every person has a right to life. A fetus is a person, therefore it has a right to life.” With this taken into account, opponents of abortion also believe that since the fetus is a person with the right to life, its right to life outweighs the mother’s right to decide what happens in her body. Therefore the fetus should the be killed and an abortion should not be preformed as it is often considered morally impermissible to kill another person with the same moral status as typical adult humans. However, we should consider a case in which the mother will die if an abortion is not preformed. Despite the fact that both she and the fetus has the equal right to life, opponents of abortion would still consider it wrong to preform an abortion with reasons ranging from killing an innocent person is always wrong and is murder to one must always prefer letting a person die to killing a person.
This dichotomy of the one and the many presents itself in the premises of the two opponents as follows: Anti-abortionist has the outlook that fetuses are people, and abortion equates to murder. While, on the other hand, the pro-choicer are proponents of the ideal of fetuses not being people, thus abortion doesn’t
The ethical view of abortion Does a mother have the right to take the life of her unborn child? Some may say that it is God’s will for that fetus to be born, and that the child is supposed to be born. This essay does not argue religious views, but ethical views. I will be using different views from an ethical standpoint to try to understand if abortion is morally good or bad. From a non-biblical standpoint, it is based on whether a woman finds it ethically right to terminate a pregnancy and what effect it would ultimately have on her happiness.
It is a topic that can be vastly argued, but when considering what is best for society as a whole, it is possible to narrow down the possible outcomes. Although it is not best for society to make abortion completely illegal, there is a fine line between abortion and murder which needs to be dealt with. It is commonly agreed that murder is unethical, however, what needs to be clarified is the definition of life. The “New Oxford American Dictionary,” partly defines life as “...functional activity...” The question then is how this relates to a human fetas and abortion. In order to meet this require of life, a fetas would need both a heart beat and brain activity.
Pro-Life vs. Thomson Article, "A Defense of Abortion" In the article "A Defense of Abortion," Thomson begins to use twisted logic and what I observe to be faulty examples to prove that abortion is moral and permissible. One should be aware as we read it that she is setting the stage to convince us later in the reading, that the woman has a right to do whatever she wants with her unborn child, no matter what the situation may be. In a pro-life attempt to argue Thomson's article, I would like to dissect it one section at a time touching on certain points that I feel are important to dismantle. In section one we notice her comparison of the acorn and the oak tree as to the fetus and the adult. "It is concluded that the fetus is, or anyway that we had better say it is, a person from the moment of conception.
Abortion Should abortion be made legal in all states in the United States? I do not believe that abortion should be made legal in any state. If someone gets pregnant, she should take responsibility for that pregnancy. I realize that there are some circumstances that might warrant thoughts of abortion, such as in the case of rape. Even then, there is someone who would take the baby and raise it as their own.
Should abortion be legalized in all states and individuals be allowed to make such decisions for themselves? Should abortion be legalized in all states? Arguably this is possibly the most balanced and most frequently debated question. The first subject of debate is when personhood should technically be recognized. Persons that are pro legal abortion claim that a fetus is not a human being and that personhood begins at birth.
