Jonna Simmons Professor Lee ENGL 101 CXH 2 April 2014 Pro Choice: The Uphill Battle The debate between pro-life and pro-choice has been ongoing since Roe v. Wade (1973). Since that landmark decision, some states have passed very restrictive laws to control the limits on women trying to get an abortion. Why do legislators want to make decisions for a woman if she wants an abortion? There isn’t a law limiting how many piercings a person can get or how many guns a person can own. So why do we need laws restricting women from receiving an abortion? Salon staff writer Irin Carmon writes” Women should not have to explain or justify to anyone their reason why they want an abortion. To do so means that some reasons for an abortion are more justified than others. There are only two ways of thinking about abortion: either a woman has a right to decide not to be pregnant anymore, or other people think they have a right to make her decision for her.” Therefore, no law or no one should tell a woman that she cannot make a decision on having an abortion.
