If a woman chooses not to seek medical attention for her unborn child, is that not the same as a mother not seeking medical attention for her baby’s aliment? In fact I believe it is and we as a society consider that negligence. So we must decide that a fetus is not a part of the mother’s body but a person, and that her right to freedom of choice must be weighed against the fetus’s right to be born in a healthy state. Against: Are we as a society ready to demand more of an expectant mother than anyone else? If we are sincerely committed to equality then the answer must be no.
During the late 1900’s, most states had adopted laws that outlawed abortion except in extreme cases. Many women tried illegal abortions, but these were very risky because illegal abortions were performed in unsanitary conditions. People were questioning the government’s right to interfere with citizens’ privacy. Norma L. McCorvey, a woman who lived in Texas, had become pregnant for the third time in 1969. She attempted to apply for illegal abortion, but there were no available abortion centers in the state where she lived.
Wade Supreme Court Decision By Jone Johnson Lewis, About.com Roe V Wade American History Free Abortion History of the Slam Dunk Missouri Courts Roe v. Wade is the historic Supreme Court decision overturning a Texas interpretation of abortion law and making abortion legal in the United States. The Roe v. Wade decision held that a woman, with her doctor, could choose abortion in earlier months of pregnancy without restriction, and with restrictions in later months, based on the right to privacy. Date of the Roe v. Wade decision: January 22, 1973. Effect of the Roe v. Wade decision: All state laws limiting women's access to abortions during the first trimester of pregnancy were invalidated by Roe v. Wade. State laws limiting such access during the second trimester were upheld only when the restrictions were for the purpose of protecting the health of the pregnant woman.
The lack in education and experice results in lower levels of trust in medical care. They are skeptical about receiving care from physicians, nurses and the entire medical care regimen as a whole. Women who are skeptical about the care will reject prenatal testing. For example referring back to the story about tracy, she rejected getting an ultrasound because she believed that the radioactive rays would affect her fetus. If she was educated about the importance of prenatal testing Nahla might have been normal today.
Health insurance is not a part of the religion therefore they must follow the Obama mandate. This would be another great point in that it is not their body, the body of the courts, their employers, nor the doctors to state what women should be doing with their body. Wikipedia states that the Justice Departments' job is to, “responsible for the enforcement of the law and administration of justice" which they tried to do in this case but Judge Kane ignored them. Roe V Wade decided that years ago that women have the right to have contraception and abortions up unto what is
Many people believe life begins at conception, others believe life doesn’t begin until the baby is born. When people believe in abortion they’re pro-choice, when they don’t believe in abortion its pro-life. There is no way to say either one is right or wrong as a fact because abortion is against the law. Or should it be? A babies heart begins beating just after 21 days after conception, many abortions happen much after that.
What is more important is that we are giving a woman the choice of whether or not she will have an abortion. No human being; how smart, powerful, or important they may be; has the right to change what may happen to another human’s body unless that change is made by a doctor in an extreme medical condition, where that doctor has the consent of the patient, or relative of the patient, to help that person. When a woman makes the decision to have an abortion the decision is not taken lightly. That is the concern of many pro-life supporters. They are concerned that women are becoming pregnant and simply saying, “O well, I’ll just have another abortion.” That is not the case.
The Last Abortion Clinic Americans are still struggling with this intense issue regarding abortion. In The Last Abortion Clinic, FRONTLINE explores the efforts by pro-life advocates to help pass state legislation restricting access to abortion. The video examines the successes of the pro-life movement and touches upon the age-old balance between state and federal authority over Americans' lives. Some major issues that fall within the federal protection vs. those granted to the states by the 10th Amendment, also called the reserved powers amendment because it aims to reserve powers to the states (page 60). The pro-life movement has dramatically changed the landscape of abortion politics.
Abortion: Pro-Life In January 1973, the Supreme Court case Roe vs. Wade, made it legal for any woman in the first trimester of pregnancy to get an abortion. It stated that in the second trimester the state could regulate the abortion in ways that it pertained to the safety of the mother, and in the third trimester the state can forbid the abortion if the mother’s life is at risk (Murchison). However, just because the Supreme Court feels that abortion is acceptable, does not mean the United States as a whole feels that way. Since this case, abortion has been an extremely controversial topic that brings up passion and emotions no matter which side you are on with the topic. No one can ever agree on whether abortion is morally right or wrong,
Abortion will never find its equilibrium and no one society will come to an agreement. Abortion laws have been implemented in order to help women, because regardless of the opinion of people they are still human and need help. There will never be a right way to go about abortion because everyone has their own sets of opinion. The only adequate solution would be to provide clinics for women, help, set laws, rule, and requirements. Because at the final moment it is up to the mother whether or not to abort.
