Introduction

Primary health care are health care services provided to patients and other consumers outside the hospital (Rita & Karen,2009 p.55).It’s about the care provided by health professionals to individuals and the community at large through full participation of the community. The cost of health care is mostly shared between the government and the community and must be affordable. The provision of the service is normally done by enrolled nurses, pharmacists and other specialized medical practitioners like dentists. There is much emphasis on the primary health care by the world health organization because of the immense contribution it has on the population health. Access to better primary health care will not only better health outcomes of the population but also reduce the rate of mortality (2009 p.56). This paper discusses the benefits that come with better primary health care services and the important roles played by the enrolled nurses to improve the health of the communities.

Roles of Enrolled Nurses.

According to Anne & Jill, 2011), Enrolled nurses are individuals who have the relevant education and training in the field of nursing. They are enrolled and licensed to practice nursing in their respective locations. Enrolled nurses may be in four categories which include; community health nurses, maternal and child health nurses, school nurses and occupational health nurses.
