Critical Commentary This piece is Barack Obama’s victory speech in Chicago, after winning the recent presidential elections. President Obama begins the speech with the word ‘tonight’, bringing his audience to reflect on what had just happened at that present time. The president uses positive phrases such as ‘won the right’, ‘perfecting’ and ‘moves forward’. This creates positive energy and in this context, provokes patriotism. The use of the word ‘forward’ also shows that Obama is prepared and is looking toward the future.
Otherwise, they also have family to be taken of. Energy is very significant for a nation’s economic development. Both Republicans and Democrats want to produce more Green energy. Nevertheless, Republicans disagree with the imposing national energy tax on small business and families. Democrats focus more on technological innovation in energy production; therefore, it creates more jobs.

Conservative Charles Krauthammer uses parallel structure and figurative language to compare an Obama and Romney presidency.
Ethos – Appeals to Authority and Credibility By Megan McIntyre and Jessica McKee Power is the most persuasive rhetoric. – Friedrich Schiller I’ve always wondered why candidates have to “approve this message”; I mean, if President Obama is on camera talking about himself, can’t I assume he approves the message ? Why does he have to state that he approves at the end? There’s certainly a law that governs what must be said at the end of a political advertisement, or else President Obama wouldn’t say exactly the same thing as every other politician at the end of an ad, but there’s also an element of persuasion at work here. By appearing on camera saying that he approves the content, the President is giving the ad credibility.
Obama’s had to choose a topic that allowed him to convince people that John Kerry was the right person to be the next president of the United States of America. This is why Obama surrounded his speech around hope. He used cultural allusions, which are references to historical, literary, and religious sources that are familiar in a specific culture (Thomson 56). He did this by quoting from the declaration allowing him to transition
Amidst excessive political television advertisements and larger-than-life billboard signs, Election Day brings forth the major topics of concerns of the American public. Voters ultimately end up choosing the candidate who they believe will have the solution to all of the nation’s problems. Not only do voters look for the “man with the plan” they also vote based upon the candidates’ prior political experience and success, as well the candidates’ view for the nation’s future. President Obama should be elected as president of the United States because he possesses quality leadership skills, political experience and success, has a clear vision for America’s future, has communicated a plan for solving the economic crises of the nation, and firmly
As Obama was already president at the time of the speech, he did not need to worry about convincing people to vote for him. To the reader, it seems to be reassurance that voters made the right choice. The purpose essay is to inspire “We, the people, will together rebuild our country”. Obama persuasively tries to unite the country so that they may build a better nation and a better life for themselves. Obama uses pathos in stirring an emotional response in paragraph 2.
Obama Syria Speech Addresses Debate over Action President Barak Obama is known as one of the greatest speakers in the United States of America. The great speech he gave during the 2008 Presidential election won America’s heart. President Barak Obama is very sincere when he talks and most people feel as if he is talking directly to them. Personally I feel that our President tells the American people exactly what they want to hear. I also feel he already knows that he is going to do the complete opposite.
Herbert begins by talking about the economy and how we need to make it stronger. His view is that we need to stop wasting our money on war because we are still recovering: “We have neither the will nor the common sense to either raise taxes to pay for the wars, of stop fighting them”(Herbert565). The last point made by Herbert is about the direction in which our school system is going. He explains that the school system used to be up to par and that the “United States understood the importance of educating its young people and led the way in compulsory public schooling”(Herbert565). Trustworthiness is needed, because it shows that you have nothing to worry about in your country, weather it be wars, or nuclear warfare. Leadership is needed because, if a president does not know how to lead, he will allow his country to fall, and will not do anything to help it back up. Presidents that show great qualities of being honorable, trustworthy, and the ability to be a leader are Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. Ronald Reagan, the 40th president of the United States, this man fought to cut taxes and rebuild the economy for the American people, reducing taxes, and balancing the federal budget. This, to everyone in America, made him look honorable and trustworthy, because he shows he cares about the people and the country he is leading.
