Prejudice is when an individual is judged by aspects which do not relate to them at all. Prejudice is the main trouble of social inequality, in society when a family gains wealth, another will be made poor. And when a group gains power, another group is made below that power. The link between prejudice and stereotype is very similar, when prejudice occurs, stereotyping maybe also becomes a result of it and then this becomes discrimination. When it comes to prejudice many situations are caused by stereotypes.
Most Africans in America at that period had extremely low self-esteem, believing they were inferior to the white Americans, and suffered from work and the separation of their families. However, Mark Twain thought of the other way. In the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Twain was starting
This blatant neglecting of others leads to what is described as a “Ladder” culture (putting some people above others). People become so wrapped up in this system that they actually begin to believe that they are defined by their position on the ladder. At the top of the ladder sits a mythical figure such as a celebrity or billionaire, and on the bottom sits the losers who are made up of the unemployed and homeless. Because these people are at the bottom of the ladder, people higher up on the ladder tend to treat them badly because they have no perceived value. Once someone is in the system for long enough, their attitude tends to change from merely wanting success, to actually hoping other people fail.
In documents 2 and 3 you can easily tell that event the population is divided into social class going from the top of the class to the bottom. Mencius said “there are those who use their mind, and there are those who use their muscles.” Mencius is saying that the philosophers, the ones who use their mind, are most important or at the top of social class. He is also saying that the people who use their muscles are lower in the social class in the “mean people.” This is because Han China saw these types of people as unskilled workers. Some of the people who were classified as “mean people” were merchants, artists, and slaves. In Athens if you were actively involved in politics you were high in class.
Despite their freedom, the serfs had it better off in bondage of nobility, than the bondage of government, and then, poverty. The ordeals created a common revolutionary rage in the serf community. This resulted in social turmoil, through rebellions and political opposition from the nobility, whom had lost their private workforce. The results of the abolition were chaotic, but would leave an eternal mark in the course of Russian
In the article, “The War Against the Poor Instead of Programs to End Poverty”, Gans Herbert discusses the vision of poverty in America and the place of poor people in the society. According to Gans, they are discriminated and criticized; thus, he describes the situation. Nowadays, there are still inequalities between people in America. Welfare recipients are viewed as ineffective and causing problems. Instead of helping the poor, people criticize them, for everything they do or not.
Surely there were poor and rich people and sometimes they wanted to screw with them because they were rich or poor. They probably envied the rich and damned the poor and more than likely they exchanged words and did evil acts upon each other. Documents explain that most of the persons accused were lower income people who were not high ranking members of society. They probably saw the poor as lazy people who didn’t want to make more money or become a high ranking member in the church and to them laziness is seen as an act of the devil. Some of the poor probably had to steal items to keep them afloat, whether it was food, money, or Valuable items and of course if you steal you are already breaking one of god’s rules and they know that you are the devil as the bible leads them to believe.
The 'working poor,' as they are approvingly termed, are in fact the major philanthropists of our society. They neglect their own children so that the children of others will be cared for; they live in substandard housing so that other homes will be shiny and perfect; they endure deprivation so that inflation will be low and stock prices high. To be
HistorySlavery was an institution that victimized as well as other cultures due to being in a controlled environment. Every suffered in their own way due to racial prejudice and fear of growing numbers. Masters which were also called Slave "owners" believed that treating another human being of another color like an animal was right. The children of the slave owners were being victimized as well due to following what their parent’s doings were right in treating another human being in such a manner. Slavery was so victimized that it still affects the society to the extent that black people blame the whites , and white people still agree that black people need to be slaves.
Stratification is a division of a society’s resources that benefits some people and harms others. Social position reflects the way society divides resources. Unequal rewards only serve to divide society, creating “haves” and “have-nots.” There is widespread opposition to social inequality. Using a structural-functional approach to look at the demise of the middle class would point out that the middle class is sliding backwards due to a lack of personal talent and ability. Since
