Policing styles have changed throughout the years. Beginning in the 1840s and ending around 1930 during which time law enforcement agents were known to serve the interest of powerful Politian’s. The Watchmen Style of policing by controlling illegal disruptive behavior in lower-class communities. Police would intervene informally into the lives of residences in order to keep peace. The Legalistic Style of policing takes more of a hands-off approach to disruptive or problematic behavior to the strict letter of the law this service style policing is concerned with helping rather than strict enforcement. This policing method involves more community base activities. Police Community Relations recognized the need for the community and the police to work together effectively and that is based on the notion that the police derive their legitimacy from the community they serve. Team Policing the reorganization of conventional patrol strategies into: an integrated and versatile police team assigned to fixed districts." Strategic policing makes use of innovative enforcement techniques. In today society the most popular policing method is the community relations style. By involving the community in the police process actually strengthens law enforcement and community relations. Many tack ticks have been used to deter or prevent crime. Officers have established roles from preventive patrol, routine incidence response, emergency response, criminal investigation, problem solving, and support services. Crime prevention is a community responsibility. Across the United States, citizens are taking back their neighborhoods by forming partnerships with local law enforcement agencies.
