Plants have many uses on this earth today. Directly or indirectly, plants provide food, clothing, fuel, shelter, and many other necessities of life. Humankind's dependence on crops such as wheat and corn is obvious, but without grass and grain the livestock that provide people with food and other animal products could not survive either. My family has been using plants for many generations. We use plants for health reasons. Also my family uses plants for foods and decorations. My mother says her favorite is the aloe Vera plant. She uses the plant to heal burns. She also says that it’s great for juice. Aloe Vera contains many vitamins including A, C, E. Another plant used in my family is the menthe plant. It’s also known as mint. We use it to make tea. Also we use it for a fragrance. My grandmother love using a lot of green plants while preparing food. Some are spinach, broccoli, and celery. They provide our bodies with the vitamins and minerals we need to grow and stay healthy as we develop. My grandmother also says that yellow root helps with high blood pressure. We eat the roots of plants such as carrots and potatoes. Potatoes can be baked, boiled and fried. Also potatoes are used to make potato chips. We eat the seeds of plants. Rice, wheat and corn are the seeds of plants. Herbs and spices add flavor to our foods. Herbs are the leaves of plants and spices are made from the roots and bark of plants. For centuries, people have used the herbs and spices derived from plants as seasonings for their food. Pepper and nutmeg are two examples of seasonings derived from dried fruit, while others such as sage and rosemary come from leaves. A common baking spice, cinnamon, is found in the stem of the plant.
