Susana Macias Professor Tom COM 102-030 Feb. 25, 2013 Philippe Petit: Wire Walking the World Trade Center Have you ever seen a wire walker walking between the World Trade Center, also known as the Twin Towers? The wire walker I am talking about is Philippe Petit. Philippe Petit is a successful walker. He walked the World Trade Center on August 7, 1974, which took him six years of planning. Petit was almost an hour on his wire hanging at a height of 1,368 ft. performing with a 55-pound balancing pole. Yes, some people might think that he could mentally unstable for wire walking between the Twin Towers, Philippe Petit has proven to be menatlly stable. What Petit thinks of himself is that he is so into his, if you can say, career, wire walking. One thing that stood in my mind from the documentary is when he said, " This can be my last day, I could die, but I can't resist, I can't resist climbilg up to this cable." when he said that I was like he is really going to to wire walk the Twin Towers and he could make it through cross the cable because of his concentration when he steps his foot and starts walking on his wire and performs for his crowd below. My first point of proving that Petit is mentally stable is that he was self taught, meaning that he took enough preparation throughout his years since he was a teenager. When he was preparating for the big event Petit and his crew would go to this field where they would reenact the length between the two towers and his crew would also make the wire jumpy as wind so Petit would get more practice for when he would walk between the towers. Petit's first wire walking was in 1971 between the towers of Notre Dame de Paris. From there he would be more interested in high buildings for his high wire walking skills.
