Personal Philosophy of Nursing Worksheet

This is a philosophy of nursing that reflects the beliefs and values of Cathy Sartor.

Today’s date is 02/03/13.

I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is relatively in demand. The potential for finding and keeping a job is high. I did not want to be the primary caregiver (the doctor). I liked the idea of having a career that I can leave at work and not have to worry about on my days off. I also chose because my personality suits nursing. I believe that the core of nursing is caring about people. Promoting healing and health. I believe that the core of nursing is integrity. Having respect for the dignity of every person without condition, prejudice, and without limit. I believe that the core of nursing is diversity. Recognizing and accepting the uniqueness of and differences between people and their ideas, values etc… I believe that the core of nursing is excellence. Performing my care in a professional and competent manner, using a holistic approach to caring, communicate with patients, families, and peers in a competent, cooperative manner.

I believe that the focus of nursing is caring holistic health, encouraging health, aiding in reduction of risk, health conservation, rebuilding, and end-of-life care. “the provision of health care services that focus on assisting people in maintaining health, avoiding or minimizing disease and disability, restoring wellness, or achieving a peaceful death” (Chitty & Black, 2011, "Conceptual and Philosophical Bases of Nursing").

My vision for myself as a nurse is that I will deliver the best care I can to all of my patients without judgment. I will continue to grow and learn. I
