Jake handles the war injury as well as anyone could. “What’s the matter with you anyway?” “I got hurt in the war”(24) Even though he turns to alcohol and feels lonely every once in a while he passes that by confiding in new friends and making memories with the old ones as well. Brett Ashley was another character impacted by the war. Her husband had died in battle and it was extremely tough to get through. “During the war.
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view…Until you climb into his skin and walk around in it,” Atticus (Lee 30). Likewise, when Bob Ewell spat into Atticus’ face, Atticus considered that by doing nothing, he can save the Ewell children from another beating. In short, Atticus considers all factors before making a decision. Moreover, Atticus is wise because he has a clever mind and tongue. For example, during the Tom Robinson trial, Atticus worded his speech so well that it took the juries a few hours to decide a verdict.
The doctors told him that he will be in the wheel chair for the rest of his life but he was determined to regain his strength and movement. How can one attain this disorder? The specialists struggled to find out the cause of this disorder for decades and there is still no answer. In Ian’s case, this disorder was acquired through the gastric flu because the antibodies to the infection attacked his body. His mother was assuming it was because Ian had a busy work schedule, he worked many difficult shifts.
Due to the patriarchal facts, men are seen as the heads of each family, so everyone’s destiny is in their hands, just like “family council” in “tore” in Akman’s article. If a family doesn’t have a father, then the head of the family should be the eldest son in place of the mother. Because of Mrs. Dunbar’s husband’s broken leg, he can’t join the lottery but as she offers herself on behalf of her family, Mr. Summers asks for an adult son instead of her. On the other hand, Mrs. Watson’s son’s drawing on behalf of his mother and him is appreciated by everyone. Putting adults aside, even the little children don’t care about women.
Pathos: Throughout this argument, the defendent uses alot of emotional ties to win over the jurys decision. He states that we all have children, or grandchildren, or are around children in any way, and we've all been concerned at one point with who they associate themselves with. He also points out that "Lee's childhood was one of abandonment-ripped from the father that he loved...[and that] Lee's mother was abusive." Coming from this type of backround, Lee had no one to actually care for him, so when he associated himself with a bad guy, all he saw was someone who was there for him; he ignored all the evil. This attorney uses these and many other statements to back up his argument, which shows how Lee was basically brainwashed, without him having any idea of what was going on.
On Sept. 22, 2012, I had the opportunity to interview Richard at Community Fire Department in MI. Because of schedule conflicts, it took a while for us to finally sit down and talk. I asked him some questions that would give me an insight into what he deals with on a daily basis. Some questions were personal in nature, but were asked for a deeper understanding of what makes a good man as well as a good chief. I arrived at the station and entered into the downstairs meeting room.
Andy never does overcome the tragedy. Andy was charged with DWI, and lost his license until the turns 21. He also has to attend alcohol rehab, and see a psychologist. The psychologist does a lot of meetings; he also talks to his basketball coach about a lot. But the one person that was there through almost everything was his girlfriend Keisha.
Nick is well known to the nursing staff for previous admissions related to alcohol abuse. Nick's affect is angry and uncooperative, and the nurses won't let him leave. Nick states that he has been feeling sad for several
“Florentino Aziza climbed up and down stairs with special care, for he had always believed that old age began with one’s first minor fall and that death came with the second” (313). After breaking his ankle due to a fall, Florentino’s worst fears are recognized and he is sentenced to a bed. Florentino is not the only character to be demoralized by his elderly age. As he looks back nostalgically upon his life he remembers the glorious days when he was full of constant accomplishments, travels, and respect from the people of his community. Now as he is an old physically impaired physician unable to complete simple tasks by himself.
The main character, Dick, a chronic drinker, seems to directly reflect the inability to truly change personality. Although he succeeds at going on the wagon, he does not manage to deal with his past. With the quote “I began to take a whole lot of drinks to keep going and have everybody think I was wonderful [...] So all I've got to show for the last five years is a reputation that makes mothers rush their daughters away if I'm at the same hotel,” author shows that Dick is fully aware that he initially abused alcohol to make an impression on people which has ended in failure, but he doesn’t try to find and eliminate the causes of his addiction. On the contrary, he only changes one addiction for another - a woman, which he himself clearly showed by claiming “I think if it hadn’t been for Esther, I’d have fallen off the wagon”. But after all he is not only internally troubled by his past and chained by his habits but also exposed to external judgements and other people’s prejudices based on his previous behaviour, both preventing him from moving on and living a full life.
