In this essay I will show what makes both methods similar and what makes them different. The main commonality that photosynthesis and solar panels share is that they both have the same goal of creating energy which originates from the sun. The utilization of photosynthesis allows plants to use that energy to survive. The sole purpose of solar panels is to create energy to that could be used in day to day life to make our lives so much more enjoyable. The use of this technology allows us to slow the uses of fossil fuel preserving them making our surviving (or comfort of living) a lot more sustainable.
Cox says that we need to reduce the use of air conditioning because it uses fuel to work and burning fuel results in pollution (Cox 344). Air conditioning is one of those technologies which cause global warming due to adding green house gases in the environment. But Cox neglects the benefits of having air conditioning. For instance, AC not only helps to maintain room temperature, but it also removes extra moisture from the air. (“AC also helps to clean the air by removing dust particles in the air”).
With similarities also come differences. Semi-conductor solar cells are harnessing sunlight in order to produce electric energy. Photosynthesis is harnessing sunlight for self-sustainability. Solar cells cannot create food and energy in which to allow animals and organisms to use as nutrients. Photosynthesis creates carbohydrates to be used as nutrient value to animals for consumption.
This source of energy has been around for a while, why we are not using it to help save the environment? Renewable energy such as hydroelectricity, wind power, solar energy, geothermal, biomass and biofuels can be beneficial to environment. One of the biggest advantages of using renewable energy is that those sources are not perishable and can be easily replenished. They do not involve the burning of fossil fuels; renewable energy is a clean source of energy. Other great advantage of renewable source is the cost, this type of energy have a low maintenance cost associated with them.

Photosynthesis is performed by various life forms, however, the best organisms’ for this process is by cyanobacteria, algae and higher plants (Vermaas, 2013).
Another reason I am interested in solar power is that it seems to be the least harmful ecologically and most efficient way for personal home owners to produce their own energy. I feel this is an important issue because our natural resources are becoming less and less available and time is running out to choose another viable and affordable option. The cost of converting personal homes and businesses would pay for itself in terms of initial cost in a short time and solar energy cells do not require any extra space. Solar panels can be installed on our rooftops and would not require the use of land mass to utilize. This addresses two problems renewable energy and land conservation.
