Unit 4222-301 Outcome 1 Understand why effective communication is important in the work setting Communication can be used to bring out changes in attitudes, motivate people and establish and maintain relationships. Communication is vital for seeking and providing information. We communicate to express our emotions like courage or fear, joy or sorrow, satisfaction or disappointment with appropriate gestures and words. It is crucial to have good communication for developing positive relationships with other people. It is a process by which two or more people exchange ideas, facts, feelings or impressions in ways that each gains a common understanding of the message.
People communicate to express needs, to share ideas and information, to reassure, to express feelings, to build relationships; socialise, to ask questions, to share experiences. We communicate in order to establish and maintain relationships with others, to give and receive information and instructions, to understand and be understood, to share opinions, knowledge, feelings, emotions, to give encouragement and show others they are valued. People live and communicate within a range of different groups and communities, including families, neighbourhoods, workplaces, schools and colleges, activity groups, commercial settings, professional services, etc.. The nature of communication is very different dependent on the circumstances. Communication can be personal and intimate with people who are very close, formal, informal, etc.. An effective communication is an essential tool a health or social workers can use to meet the needs of clients or patients.
1.1 People communicate for a variety of reasons. To express their feelings, to say or show how they feel, to ask for something they need or would like. Also to share information and build relationships. To ask questions and be answered. To reassure a service user to help them to trust you.
As a manager, I can see myself inspiring my subordinates to think, grow and take responsibility for them. I do this by demonstrating belief in what my staff members can accomplish. I believe that I can help people to improve, and I enjoy managing and supporting their efforts. Moreover, observing the best in people is important to me. In fact, my ability to combine an acceptance of others as they are with the inspiration and encouragement they need to become even better is what makes me a valuable mentor, manager, co-worker, and friend.
Communication is used to benefit relationships and maintain safety and consistency. All communication has an effect on the person you we are communicating with. In our job we communicate with person who we supporting, with their family and friends, with colleagues and other professionals. It is a two-way process called an interaction and it is important that we watch the effect so that any problems we can identified and deal with. People communicate through - speaking, facial expression, body language, position, dress, gestures - which called non verbal communication.

Communication is the sending of information from one person to another expressing your wants, feelings, thoughts and opinions clearly. Communication and language needs and preferences of individuals are the individuals’ needs and wants in terms of their preferred language and ways of communicating with you, and you communicating and responding to them. When a person decides to communicate with a person, he or she does so to fulfil a need. The person wants something, feels discomfort, and or has feelings or thoughts about something.

Maslow further states that people meet the lower need starting with physiological and work their way up the list. Schutz Theory (2005) states that people need inclusion, control, and affection to satisfy their needs. People in a group are in search of a common goal; as well as they thrive to be effective individuals and team members. I discuss the people participating the in the group, how the group is form, group dynamics, face-to-face versus virtual and unique characteristics of a virtual team, roles, norms, status, interpersonal needs, and my impression about groups.
