Sociology In My World Assignment #2 Peer Pressure Peer Pressure refers to the influence exerted by a person or group in encouraging a person to challenge his or her attitudes, values, or behavior in order to fit in to group norms. Some examples of peer pressure are smoking to be “cool” like the other kids, the same for drugs and alcohol. Although the most peer pressure shown today is sexual. A very close friend and I shared everything with each other. She told me that she and her new boyfriend had became sexual active, she told me that it was not what she wanted but she couldn’t lose her boyfriend because of it. So she agreed to have sex with him but she told me that it became an everyday problem and she wanted it to stop. So I told her just to talk to him and tell him how she really feels about it. When she talked to him he said that she either does it or they are not going to date anymore. So again she gives in and does what she does not want to do. I feel like this is a very good example of peer pressure. Rehabilitation Rehabilitation means to restore to good health or useful life through therapy and education. Most people in rehab are on drugs or drink very heavily. Rehabilitation has worked for many people including celebrities such as Eminem he canceled a bunch of gigs and checked into rehab to kick his addiction to sleeping pills. His fame drew so much attention to him, he admits that he was suicidal in those days. Adding the drugs Vicodin and Methadone to his drugs of choice he got a rehab treatment. With that and the help of singer Elton John to help him get clean, he found inspiration and was fully back to good health. Rehab helps many people every day and saves people’s lives even the rich and famous have problems they can’t fix by themselves.
