Movie: “28 days” 1. Presenting addiction: In 28 days the main character “Gwen” is an alcoholic who ends up getting arrested at her sisters wedding for driving drunk and crashing into a house. 2. Observed underlying issues: An observed underlying issue is the relationship with her boyfriend “Jasper”. Jasper is also addicted to alcohol and prescription pills. As the movie progresses you can see how Jasper makes it hard for Gwen to remain sober because he continues to bring in alcohol and pills into rehab. As Gwen interacted with the staff/clients in the rehab clinic you can also see that she is challenged and has issues relating with authoritative figures and communicating about her personal emotions/feelings. 3. Gwen has developed a strong support system and distanced her self from high-risk peers. Because of this I believe that Gwen’s prognosis is positive maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Movie: ”When a Man Loves a Women” 1. Presenting Addiction? Alice’s addiction is to alcohol. 2. Observed underlying issues: I believe that there is an underlying issue of being alone/abandonment because her husband is gone a lot. I also feel that due to the pressures of Alice’s responsibilities she might feel trapped and her alcohol was a way out. 3. History/Progression? The progression starts in the beginning of the movie when Alice and her husband are drinking just “having a good time” while going on trips. The as the movie progresses and Alice is left alone for longer and longer while her drinking also got worse. Alice’s drinking progressed to the point where she needed hospitalization and substance abuse treatment. 4. Use of other drugs? The only other uses of drugs in this movie are nicotine and caffeine.
