Not only will the massive amounts oil produced from this area have an effect, it is estimated to create anywhere from 250,000-735,000 jobs. Just for a reference as to how much this will boost the economy, since 1977 the North Slope oil development has pumped 500 billion dollars back into the economy. This is now slowly running out of resources considering it reached its peak production in 1980; however to continue boosting the economy more exploration needs to be done. (source 2) Action needs to be taken immediately because from the date of approval to exploration it takes anywhere from 7-12 years until the first barrel of oil is recovered. (Source 1/3) The 16 billion barrels of oil that lie untapped there would be more than enough to replace the oil Americans would purchase from Iraq for over 58 years.
Discounting the amount of waste that is recycled still leaves a difference of more than double in the waste creation between the years, but the exponential growth in the recycling amount provides information into a changing attitude. Although waste and recycling are only a subset of the ecological issues faced across the globe today, this information provides insight into the mindset and changing values relative to the environment. The improvement in the recycling rate didn’t occur over a year or even in the last decade, but has steadily climbed over the last 40 years. We can expect to find similar adoption rates across all environmental solutions, as it generally takes time for the information and education to spread, and additional time for it to be broadly accepted. As such, the most important question we can look to answer is not, whether one solution is better than another, but if we applied any and all possible solutions to the issues, is there time to fix the problems we have caused.
The price for the barrels averaged at a high of $105 in the first week of May and the price of a gallon in Houston was at a decreasing $3.74 from $3.89 about three weeks ago. The test of economics relating to the cost of resources versus the product isn’t sufficient because even at the highest peak in a month for crude oil, prices were still falling per gallon which leads to the other factor, the number of sellers/ suppliers. Every under construction site lately has been the input of a new gas station. This supports the slow falling price as the market widens with new competition. In the Cypress/Katy area there have been over ten new stations
(DoD Civilian Personnel Management System: Employment in Foreign Areas and Employee Return Rights, 2012) The second publication published by the Peace Corp addresses the issues with employee turnover. This issued described as a managerial challenge causes employee turnover to exceed the usual 20% annually since the strict implementation of the rule. The turnover rate has increased to 38%. That is an 18% increase annually and is expected to continue to rise until the program becomes stable. (Office of Inspector General,
Every one minute Australia's population increases by a new person, currently making Australia the gold medallist of growth! Our population is rising at a faster rate than any European nation, and faster than China, India and Indonesia. In 2009 record levels of overseas migration and childbirth increased our population by 480,000 people and by 2050 it's predicted Australia's population will reach 36 million. According to Dick Smith, that's a recipe for disaster. Taking into account the serious challenges of lack of water, poor soil and urban congestion, Dick believes we need to stabilise our population, not increase it.
Greetings my friends, Family, and people of this nation, as you all know in these past years the prices on Fuel has gone up reaching record highs. Even prices on clothing, food, and paper has been going up and with these hard times around us, how are we to pay for these high prices on everyday items? . Forests are depleting slowly to make paper for use, in doing so we are losing food that come naturally and destroying our planet slowly. What if one plant could help fix out problem, one plant that can grow in any climate, on any part of the planet with little care, that gives back to the earth when it dies?
As a country, we are spending over $190 billion a year treating these diseases, diseases that could be prevented by increasing exercise and decreasing calories. The scariest fact is that one in three children under 18 are overweight or obese, a rate that has tripled since 1960. The fact that the obesity rates are so high shows that as a society we accept this lifestyle. We need to be proactive as a country, and stop accepting this lifestyle and work towards a healthier society. If this continues we will have a new generation of people that don’t outlive their parents.
That balance slowly adjusted over the next 20 years due to reduced production. The price of gas peaked at the end of that cycle in 2008 at $12.69 /mmBtu (millions of British Thermal Units) based on the Henry Hub Natural Gas Front Month Futures (a standard for finding the pricing point of natural gas). However, because of the economic crisis and the emerging shale gas market, the price lowered to $6.50 between 2008 and 2010. The quickly expanding market increased supply so much that it hit a low price of $1.82/mmBtu in 2010. It has averaged $3.50/mmBtu in recent years due to new fracking technologies and government subsidies (McElroy, Lu, 2013).
He discusses that although the population is growing, our planet may not have all the resources it needs to accommodate the growing population. Kunzig states that with the increasing population will the planet have the resources it needs to support our growing population? It is discussed that the death to birth rate is completely unbalanced with 5 births to 2 deaths every second, which is causing our population to grow drastically. It is also discussed how the life span has also gone up around the world and by the year 2045 there will be 9 billion people living on this planet. Both are very big issues to worry
Healthcare Spending Paper Tracy Grainger HCS/440 August 8, 2011 Humberto Munoz Healthcare Spending Paper Why are the United States healthcare costs skyrocketing? There are several conditions that have been working together that have moved to a decade of unrelenting increases. The United States spends more on health care than any other country does, and studies have shown that 30% of it, more like 700 billion a year has been wasted on unneeded care. This is mostly due to routine CT scans, MRI’s, office visits, hospital stays, minor procedures, and brand name prescriptions that are requested by patients and ordered by doctors every day. Patients in higher spending regions such as Los Angeles get more tests, more procedures, more
