COWBOYS AND INDIANS Lorien Crow, 2008 In the very beginning of the novel we hear about a funeral. The narrator attended her grandmother’s funeral. Meanwhile she was preparing the funeral feast and thanked people for attending the funeral. After greeting people and being there for a respectable time, the narrator called her cousin David for helping her escape from the funeral. David arrived on his motorcycle and asked the narrator what’s she wanted to do. "Margaritas" she said, and they took off. They arrived to a bar and drank some tequila shots and they later drove to the bluffs to watch the sunset. After the sunset, they decided to find some food where they stumbled upon two Indian looking women. One of the women said that they brought the devil with the wind and refered to David as a devil spirit. Afterwards David drove the narrator back to the funeral where he himself took off again. An outsider is a person who does not “mingle” with a type of group. In my opinion there are a lot of different types of outsiders. ‘Cause to be honest; it is not hard to be an outsider today. If you don’t act like your fellow classmates for example, you are quickly stamped as an outsider. It could be for not wearing the right clothes, having the wrong hair color or even having your own opinion. Being different is dangerous today in our society, because you will get stamped as the “weird girl/boy.” If you try to raise your head above the others, you will get it chopped off. Being different is hard since people do not accept knowledge or something out of the ordinary. People want to fit in and that is why a lot of people in our society are the same. Go against the flow.
