Classroom Management, Engagement, and Motivation Western Governors University Task 2 Part A1. Positive Social Interaction Someday I would like to run a second grade classroom. I think that Scenario 2 might work best with my students. The first thing I noticed was that the homework policy was announced and explained to the class, at the beginning of the year. Also, handouts went home to parents explaining the policy.
Most schools will send out monthly newsletters so that anything on the website is handed out or put on a notice board outside the school. Through fund raising, school fairs and events held at the school the child gets to show parents or guardians that the aims and values of the school are being carried out. Some schools have a school council made up of the children from classes 1 to 6, who decide on issues that are important to them and also what they would like to see happening at the
Read: Read this story of a college freshman—let’s call him Raul—who moves back in with his parents for the summer after attending his first year of college out of state. Even though he feels close to his parents and wants and needs their support, he is also used to having more autonomy than they are used to giving him. (Perhaps your students will be able to relate to the predicament.) That situation activates the autonomy-connectedness dialectical tension for Raul. Instruction: After reading the story again generate eight different approaches Raul might take to dealing with the tension that correspond to the eight strategies identified by researchers: 1) denial: Raul thinks that his current situation is not as bad as it seems, because his parents are being his parents.
FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION/HYBRID CLASSES: Attendance in a Distance Education or Hybrid course will be recorded within the FIRST WEEK of the course by one or more of the following: Student contact with the instructor through attendance at an on-site orientation session; Student participation in an online orientation session that is tracked through Blackboard’s “Student Tracking” feature, or through “Tegrity Reports,” or similar features in other course management systems; Student submission (online or in-person) of completed assessments, assignments, essays, or other course related work. In this model students can have internships or participate in work-study programs while completing graduation requirements online. A high school senior who is short a few credits can choose to have a part-time job while making up credits online. A freshman can have a full schedule in the physical building and add an online course or two each semester in an effort to graduate in as little as three years. For us the pinnacle of success in K-12 should be to create a culture of learning that fully prepares students with the abilities to be successful in life. We feel the global pressures for increased digital citizenship and customized learning.
Participation in the Seminar is a very important part of this course. It is the one chance that you have each week to interact with your classmates and your instructor real-time. Seminar is a great opportunity to cover course material in a fun and dynamic forum where you can discuss what you’ve learned in each unit and ask questions about topics that you don’t yet understand. Students should actively participate in each seminar. During each seminar, the instructor will be asking students lots of questions from the reading assignments, so there will be many opportunities to answer and to make additional comments or ask questions of your own.
The school holds what they call The Multiple Intelligences Festival, this festival has been held every year for the last four years. Jan Cox, the school principal, states that “We bring in a lot of different people with a lot of different talents so the children can experience that,”They begin to understand that they have different talents and they see adults with different talents and it broadens their idea of what they can do when they grow up.” (Castillo, 2008) In the hallways and classrooms of the school are hands on exhibits where the students experience the talents hands on. English 101 August 23 2011 What I hope to accomplish this semester With the start of my freshman college year, there are many changes about. These changes range from leaving home for the first time, to starting a new school, new teachers, and new friends. Although we have only just started classes I have high expectations for the semester. This semester my high expectations start with having a better understanding of biology. Along with that I hope to learn more about better time management in my college skills 105 class.
