(2010) as “The formation and fostering of therapeutic relationships between all care providers, patients, and others significant to them. It is underpinned by values of respect for persons, individual right to self-determination, mutual respect and understanding”. It is also acknowledged however, that trying to translate the core concepts into everyday practice is challenging and reasons for this come in many forms, one being that we are in times of constant change particularly within health and social care (Mc Cormack and Mc Cance 2006). Evidence-based nursing is the application of valid, relevant, and research-based information in nurse decision-making. Used effectively, evidence-based nursing methods can be used to dramatically enhance patient care and improve outcomes.
Annotated Bibliography: Effective Communication in Nursing Anastasia Robey NR-101 Effective Communication in Nursing Communication is of utmost importance in the field of nursing. Lives depend on it. We communicate in many different ways. The way we communicate and how effectively we can get information across is vital in the nursing profession. The following articles will help you to understand the importance of, and the different forms of communication used in the nursing field.
Introduction Nursing from Nightingale era to the present world has merged as one of the noblest profession, with distinct advancement in nursing research, practices and education. These added enhancements are incorporated by nursing philosophies and theorys that contribute to nursing. Nursing theory is a foundation to any nursing program. It assists as a framework for the practising nurse to learn and apply into the nursing profession, to achieve positive outcomes in practice and client response. Definations and correlation between asumptions and relationships are evolved from the nursing models to provide a systematic approach in the delivery of patient care via describing, explaning, predicting and prescribing (Mckeena, 1997).
Abstract Planning and delegating nursing care efficiently and effectively is an essential skill for all registered nurses to develop and master. The nursing process will assist the registered nurse to effectively plan and implement nursing interventions as well as to appropriately delegate nursing interventions to co-workers. Additionally, following the professional standards for nurses will assist in safely managing a patient load. Equally important is the use of communication. Effective communication is essential to ensure patient safety and positive outcomes, as is effective communication between nurses and the multidisciplinary team.
The intent of EBP is to improve the quality of the care that is delivered to the client. This increased knowledge, whether it is correct or incorrect, is a motivating factor for nursing professionals to have current and correct information available when working with clients in making healthcare decisions. Healthcare professionals, especially nurses, are the touch point of health care and are the key to cost effective quality care. To ensure that decisions are based on sound information nurses must utilize EBR. As technology and research in health care expands, EBP is becoming essential in delivering high quality patient care.
Early efforts to study client outcomes began from quality improvement studies with nurses’ participation in the development of interdisciplinary care plans such as critical pathways and care maps that are still in use. Evidence-based practice (EBP) is using the best available evidence on hand to guide clinical decision making in order for nurses to provide the most current and best available care for their patients (Chitty & Black, 2010). EBP is a combination of knowledge to the research process, theory, clinical decision making and findings. The use of EBP requires that one must be aware of research that supports detailed and specific
Nursing literature is readily available and easy to access. Many research publications on the subject of maintenance of a healthy workplace can be accessed through different search engines. The Joint Commission has been encouraging hospitals seeking accreditation to address the issue about disruptive behavior among staff members (Longo, 2010). Which brings up the importance of good communication in the work place. The authors of Kupperschmidt, et al., support the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics that states “professional nurses have an ethical mandate to become skilled communicators” and continue suggesting that enhances their ability to interact respectfully with all team members and to attain and
Transformational leadership is a leadership style where leaders create an inspiring vision of the future, motivate their followers to achieve it, manage implementation successfully, and develop the members of their teams to be even more effective in the future. Therefore, as a new DNP transformational leader with an instinctive ability to analyze and problem solve, I propose to address the curricula and practice competencies related to nursing skill standards. These standards create concepts that supports defining leadership roles and eliminating health disparities. Sherman (2012) states that transformational nurse leaders are able to identify the changes their environment needs, guide the change by inspiring followers, and create a sense of commitment to change. Transformational leadership hinges on a high level of engagement between leaders and followers.
APNs can facilitate the ability to practice both the art and science of nursing and reduce the chasm between theory and practice by using nursing theory as a foundation. According to Chism, nursing theory is made up of ideas brought together by associated expressions that characterize, clarify, and foretell phenomenon that are in accordance with nursing viewpoints (Chism, 2013). Nursing theory helps to identify what should shape the foundation of practice by clearly describing nursing. It is essential the APN use nursing theory in evidence-based practice, to provide better patient care, improve communication between nurses, and as a guide for nursing research and education. In addition, because the main champion of nursing, caring, cannot be quantified, it is crucial to have a theory to examine and spell out what the APN does.
The aim of evidence based practice (EBP) being to help clinicians base their actions on best current evidence. Newly educated nurses are aware that nursing research is very valuable to nursing because it challenges and tests the effectiveness of the care we
