William Elbode Marketing 550 January 20, 2014 Case #4 1. A. Does Nokia truly have a global strategy? I believe Nokia is spot on in its strategy. The company is proud to serve the countries that are less fortunate because Nokia understands the consumers in those countries will be brand loyal. I believe that Nokia understands that those countries such as China and India will someday be able to afford more expensive phones and Nokia will be there when the time comes. Nokia is holding a 40% share in the world because of the strategy I mentioned above; the company expects to give cheap phones to all the countries who cannot afford more expensive phones in hopes that the developing countries stay loyal when they have the money to purchase more expensive phones. B. Does Nokia have just regional strategies? I don’t think that Nokia is regional when it comes to its strategies because this phone is offered everywhere. While I do think Nokia targets developing countries, I am able to purchase a Nokia at any cell phone store just like anyone can. When Cell Phones started to get popular here in the United States it was Nokia that was the phone of choice; I purchased one. I read in the case study that Nokia sells phones in 150 countries and not all those places are developing so that tells me that Nokia services different classes of people. Soren Peterson study’s the markets and understands that most people want cheap phones so he will continues to serve the people who want cheap phones. 2. Consider the different global marketing environments discussed in the text. How do these environments differ in developing versus developed countries?
