And while she said she's "counting the days until graduation," she doesn't plan to leave high school without fighting back. She and her mother are preparing a lawsuit against her bullies and their parents. "I think parents can do their part by raising children who understand that there are all different kinds of people and it is in no way acceptable to bully any kind of person for any reason," the resilient student told CBS2. According to figures from the National Center of Education Statistics, almost one-third of students report being bullied in school. A new study from the Justice Policy Center's Urban Institute found that 17 percent of youths had been cyberbullied in the past year.
I have made many friends including Cadet/Private Sommermeyer and Cadet/Private Tatum. These many friends extend beyond the JROTC classroom and will no doubt be there when I most need them to be. Another thing ROTC is good for is community service hours. My counselor has already given me a community service worksheet to fill out whenever I do something and she says it will help me get into a much better college and will also look good on my Job/college application. JROTC also inspires me to work hard in school and out of school.
ISP PART C: CONTEXTUAL CRITICISM When writing the book Nineteen Minutes, Jodi Picoult takes into consideration her children’s personal experiences of being bullied at school as well as the history of school shootings. On March 6, 2007 Nineteen Minutes was published; on that very day Peter went to school and took the lives of nine students and one teacher. The story takes place in Sterling, a small town in New Hampshire; it was a town where “everyone knew everyone else” (21). As a mother of three, Picoult has seen her own children struggle to fit in and be what society wants them to be. “It was listening to their experiences, and my own frustrations, that led me to consider the topic.” Picoult also incorporates events that have taken place in the past into Nineteen Minutes, including the way the police told the parents of the deceased how their children had died.
I always make sure that other people’s highest priority needs are being served. Acceptance is the key to being a successful leader in a group; one must never reject and always accentuate. On the other hand, there was only one time throughout high school that I was chosen as a leader. During my sophomore year, another player and I were chosen to be the Team Captains of the Junior Varsity team for softball. Even when I was chosen to be a leader, I would encourage the girls to finish the running, drill, or anything our coach asked us to do.
I really hated to join any kind of games, because if I gave the wrong answer then I was called stupid. “You gave the wrong answer, stupid!” As I kept hearing that phrase in elementary school, it didn’t affect me as much until I entered junior high school. Junior high school is a year when you start to develop in many forms. I noticed that a lot of girls were developing faster than me. One afternoon a few girls were in the locker room discussing their menstruation.
She can sense right away the segregation in the class room and very violent tendencies, as a fight broke out the first day. She is torn on how to get to these kids. The next day she tries again, but certain people do not want to sit next to each other and cause problems for everyone. Mrs. Gruewell decides to tell the class to get up and everyone move around to a different seat and this is where you’re going to sit for the rest of the time. Mrs. Gruewell uses the Pathfinder Style which seeks both a high degree of effectiveness and a high degree of member satisfaction, believing that greater effectiveness is possible when all members are involved and problem solving is done through teamwork (Brown, 2011 p. 92).
Hopefully in the future I will become a successful doctor. This is what I always wanted to accomplish. I will never give up on my goal. I enjoyed the BCCC Annual Convocation; I learned a lot with this knowledge that I’ve been given by the speakers. I will work hard to get A’s and B’s this year so I can graduate.
I was so determine to get my rank that I study harder and practice with mock boards so that when I went to the board a month later I knew I will pass. So with my determination and my discipline I passed my promotion board. I want to get my masters in social work. I am determined to have good grades in all my classes and to be present to all of my classes. I am determined to get my major in Associate of Arts from PPCC and then transfer to UCCS.
Bullying in schools injures or kills innocent children. One sees many news stories where there are shootings, bombings, and fist fights in schools. Parents send their kids to school for a safe education and assume that he or she will come home at the end of the day, not realizing that there are bullies in the school that want to
My high school experience has been full of obstacles, achievements, and remarkable moments I will always remember. I have been involved with cheerleading my whole life and I recently became a member of the National Beta Club my junior year in high school. Both of these organizations gave me experiences to better myself as an individual and a leader figure. I also have achieved the following requirements of the Greater Orangeburg Community foundation scholarship. Becoming a recipient of this award would help me towards my goals set in life and most of all majoring in biology.
