also states that employment opportunities would be on the rise as well, with about 62,700 persons per year being hired during construction, however the number would then drastically drop to just 1,150 people being employed long-term all over Canada. On top of this all, Enbridge stresses on the fact that Aboriginal groups will have opportunity to have abiding benefit if they were to own an equity share in the project. Over the first 30 years approximately 280 million dollars in net income will be aggregated to Aboriginal communities along the path of the pipeline. Steering away from the asserted economic benefits, the Northern Gateway Pipeline claims that this will all come with very little to almost no environmental harm. With all the distress about ruining our coastline, Enbridge continuously says that though their commitment to using modern technology, there will be a guarantee that the pipeline is shielded from our natural environment.
It is also estimated that White Non-Hispanic Americans will be less than half the population at this point with 46.3 percent of the population being that race. Hispanics however are estimated to be 30.2 percent of the population, that's exponential growth within the next four decades! Who knows the impact this will have on our society and culture as well. With White Non-Hispanic Americans being less than half the population we are becoming a truly equally diverse society. Due to the diversity of it's people, the United States has some challenges to face in the coming years.
More children are born in Britain today outside of marriage than in most other European countries. This has been linked to many explanations such as; poor education in sexual health and the lack of knowlege on different types of contraceptives. Nearly a quarter of children lived with only one parent (25%) last year and nine out of ten of these households were headed by mothers. Dennis and Erdos believe that is is down to most families being fatherless, meaning they automatically have poor health and lower educational attainment, however this is only one theory. Another main reason is the simple fact people are marrying later for many reasons, more because of the change in attitudes towards education and religion (seclurisation).
People stereotype a whole minority as one type of people even if its not true (Murry, 2014, p.277). This needs to stop as the amount of visible minorities in Canada is growing. Only 10.2 percent of immigrants were racial or visible minorities before the 1960’s (based on 2001 Census data). Most were white Europeans. Yet in the short time spend of ten years that went up dramatically to 51.8 percent in the late 1970’s.
The article “No Babies” by Russell Shorto discusses how the population in Europe is drastically decreasing because the low birth rate and higher death rate. He discusses how the birth to death rate is very unbalanced as well, which is a result of the declining population. European culture is feared be lost due to the fact that the majority of the European population is mainly made up of older generations and few younger. In the article Population “7 Billion”, Robert Kunzig discusses how the population worldwide is increasing drastically. He discusses that although the population is growing, our planet may not have all the resources it needs to accommodate the growing population.
According to the LICO rates in 2011, poverty troubles mainly seniors, aboriginals, and single parents. In Canada, Social assistance falls well below the poverty line and fails miserably to provide adequate income for even a moderate standard living. We should ALL try living on such measly income for a month…. Maybe then we would be more sympathetic for those whom live under the poverty line. There comes a time when people grow old and are not physically capable of handling tasks in the work force.
Another reason due to the high birth rate in countries such as Ethiopia is the lack of use of contraceptives. Stage 3 changes less than stage 2 does from stage 1, as the population continues to increase rapidly, but the death rate continues to fall, but finally the birth rate begins to decline alongside it. Stage 3 can be seen in countries such as India, and the USA (surprisingly) as families start to realise that having more children is more of a burden than a form of support, and they don’t need to have as many children as very few are dying in childbirth. The continuing decline in the death rate is due
According to Howarth et al this is due to the perceived lack of sufficient data on this topic, although recent social exclusion (PSE) surveys and reports offer a great scope of the issue. At present there are around 11 million pensioners in the UK: 4 million men and 7 million women. Pensioners make up around 18% of the population and this is an ever increasing statistic as the life expectancy age has risen (ONS, 1999). Not only are the older generations living longer healthier lives, on average the position of pensioners in current society has been improving, for example in the 1980-1990s when pensioners incomes grew by two thirds (DSS, 2002). These changes have enabled greater independence for some
The population in MEDC’s is high but not growing. This is because they do not have a high birth rate, and their death rate has fallen below the birth rate. An example of this is shown in countries like the UK or USA. Both countries have a very low national increase (UK has a national increase of 4 per 1000). The UK has a total birth rate of 13 per 1000 and the USA has a total birth rate of 14 per 1000.
Stage one is pre modern which is when the birth rate and death rate fluctuate between each other which keeps population at a low, but stable point. Next is urbanizing and industrializing, at this stage the death rate drops due to better health care, standard of living etc and causes the population to increase quite quickly. Stage three is called mature industrial in this phase the birth rate stays high and the death rate is low so the population still increases quickly due to better technology. Lastly is the post industrial stage where the birth rate drops to the same level as the death rate which causes the population to become steady once again. An MEDC would be in stage four or nearing the end of it where and LEDC would be in the early stages.
