The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is a prestigious organization that selects student members from junior high school based on academic skills and community service. NJHS helps kids build leadership skills, learn responsibility, and builds character. All these things are necessary to help a student become a better person and a better citizen. For students that are accepted, NJHS raises both their self-esteem and makes them more determined to keep excel in school work. NJHS exposes students to new ideas and challenges them to work harder and help others. NJHS helps a student meet both their long-term and short-term goals. It also gets the student ready for high school and college. The reason I want to join NJHS is to make myself a better student, to help the community around me, and ultimately to make me a better person. Right now I am a good student but I have had limited exposure to outside activities to help my community. NJHS would open new doors to community service activities. The Red Cross may give me the opportunity to assist with office work or to pass out books to people in the base hospital. I enjoy making people happy and I enjoy books very much. I am very passionate about animals. As the owner of several pets I think volunteering at PAWS would benefit both the workers and animals. I would be able to take some of the load off of the workers by cleaning. I would also be able to provide companionship to the homeless pets by walking and playing with them. These are just two of the ideas I have for community service. I am sure that NJHS would have additional ideas for community service that I have not thought
