The environment that Miss Sun and her students walk into everyday has turned into a prison instead of a learning place. These children are seen as the rejects of society who are physically imprisoned by metal detectors and mentally imprisoned by their personal surroundings. The educational system fails children like them. Although Malcolm X High isn’t a real school, the problems that they face are present in many public schools. Due to all of these reasons the students in the play feel as though they are prisoners; Jerome: We treated like convicts Ms Sun: How do you mean?
I can honestly say that the teacher in the classroom did a great job with her students and I will be walking away with a bunch of awesome strategies and resources to take back to my own classroom to help with teaching reading and language arts. During this journey and through all of my observations, the teacher and myself had the same goal in mind and that was to make sure that we were educating the students to the
Myah Clark Professor Collier English112.SMRT 2 21 November 2014 Essay #2 Public Schooling: Draining Students of their Freedom and Creativity In John Taylor Gatto’s “Against School”, he explains how he thinks public education cripples our kids and why. He starts his article out by making a point that both the students and teachers are suffering from boredom. The students also pointed out the fact that the teachers didn’t seem to know much more about what was being taught then the students themselves. On the other side of the spectrum the teachers are just as bored because they feel the students are rude and only interested in the grades. He then continues on to say that we shouldn’t blame the teachers or the students; in this case, we should blame ourselves.
And why don’t teachers want their students to answer these basic questions? If they were doing their jobs, these questions wouldn’t be so difficult for their students to answer. Maybe Ms. Heraldo doesn’t want anyone telling her how to teach her classes? But this doesn’t change the fact that some of the worst teachers in the state are working in the poorest neighborhoods, like Cuevitas, Texas. At Cuevitas High School, students earned the lowest scores in all of Texas because they have the worst teachers.
It is obvious to the staff and honor students of Las Cruces High School that the troublemakers and irritating, spoiled brats are the cause of the corruption in our school. There is a fairly simple and truly beneficial solution to this problem. Send the unwanted students to work in a third world country.
To his surprise, the children with brown eyes started to be mean to children with blue eyes. Now, blue-eyed children were those who felt sad, while children with brown eyes were happy. When the children said they were lower they did wrong in their school work. Children who said they were better, showed an improvement of their skills. While Canada is one of the most multicultural countries exists, racism still exists in this country.
It’s very simple to fall victim to bandwagon fallacy, especially when people are young, and acting like others helps them to be a part of social network. One of the first examples that I remember from my own experience comes from my early teenage years. I was in the middle school, and my classmates decided to skip school that day. It was very nice weather outside: the sun was shining brightly and the snow was crispy and perfect for a snowball fight. Everybody was laughing and having fun and I felt like I wanted to be there with my classmates and not in the cold, obscure room with the math teacher.
She had spoken to the brown eyed group alone without any of the blue eyed and told them about the experiment, telling the group of adults to follow along with the statement that "brown eyed people were better then blue eyed." Throughout the workshop Jane Elliot make numerous statements by calling out blue eyes individuals and saying how lazy or dumb they were to be unprepared and rude, all while having the brown eyed people follow along and agree with her. Although by the end of the workshop the adults understood the concept and what happened, I believe that the experiment worked better with the group of younger children. Working with adults you have to know straight away that they already have been living their lifestyle and believe in their certain beliefs for a long time, making it harder to change ones perspective on a topic. But when you work with small children who are still learning, it is easier to get them to understand and change their perspective on certain things.
Imagine you are Miss Caroline. Write a letter to a friend, where you recount your experiences of your first day teaching at May comb County Primary Dear Prue, My first day teaching at May Comb County was a fascinating experience that has enabled me to learn a large amount about the town of May comb and the students in my class. I would have presumed for only the first grade, a large majority of the class would hardly know the alphabet but I was very mistaken. Every boy and girl in the classroom knew the alphabet from back to front, at first I thought this was just outstanding until I realised that the majority of them had repeated the first grade. I’ve learnt that these children do not have patience or respect, while I was trying to teach they a story they were squirming round like pigs.
Patrick McAuley Satire Essay 1/22/13 Bully for the Best According to an article written by MSNBC contributor Linda Carrol, everyday across our country one out of every six school kids is affected by the terrible use of bullying. Bullying is the largest problem concerning the safety and well-being of children at school. Students complain that bullying problems have driven them to lose focus in their learning, causing grades to drop and self-confidence to deteriorate over time. Bullies seem to target the weaker students, both physically and mentally. All schools say “no” to bullying, but why not say “yes”.
