We have implemented picture references for the service user who is non verbal, so he can associate these pictures with places and behaviours etc. This is still a working progress, we have professionals involved in their communication needs, such as Speech and language therapists and we have needed to get DOLS in place for our service users who lack capacity to make a decision they need to make. We involve family and professionals in having an input into their communication. We display photos of their families and have picture folders for each service user to have so they have visual as well as verbal confirmation of visits, meetings etc. We talk regularly to our service users and encourage conversations and choice in all things within their
I let my parents know that I hear what they are saying, and if I was in the wrong about anything that I heard or may have said I always apologize to them. I also try to find ways to make our conversation better and pleasant. To keep my communication skills sharp and accurate I have to take on going trainings, and I also read as much informative information on communication as I can. I really believe that proper communication and listen will take you along ways. .
I lived in my elder sisters hand-me-downs for many years. This has taught me, not only the value of money and material items, but also how to be patient. I can now employ patience within my work place, and can understand why life might be financially challenging for some of the elderly people that I look after. I was always considered as being a bit of a 'soft touch' when I was younger, constantly letting others have their way. In my older life, and particularly within my job role, this has taught me that I can be emphatic and sympathetic towards people.
Unit 1 1.1 Identify the different reasons people communicate People communicate to express their positive (love, joy, compassion, support ) or negative (fear, anger, pain) emotions. There are two kinds of communication – verbal (words) and non-verbal (facial expression, body language, gestures). There also can be formal or informal communication. 1.2 Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of the learner’s work In my job I’ll have to use different ways of communication, depending on who I’ll be speaking to. I’ll use different language with my colleagues, supervisors, patients and their families.
The Hmong culture has many beliefs such as do not offer to shake hands with a man, take off your shows, and do not raise your voice. Foua and Nao Kao, Lia Lee’s parents mistrust Americans. They would not allow any American to see any of Lia’s medical records. Doctors told Anne that there was no use in trying to get to Lia’s medical records because of her family. Bill Selvidge was the doctor that introduced the case to Anne Fadiman.
Aunt Fay writes to her niece Alice in the hope of teaching her about Austen and her writing and what better way to do that than by direct reference to Austen’s most successful text, Pride and Prejudice? Weldon in turn helps the actual reader understand Pride and Prejudice by commenting on the characters’ behaviour and the plot by giving her personal opinion, as well as identifying typical language features and explaining why Austen is valued today. She expresses empathy for Mrs Bennet which encourages the reader to reconsider their own opinion Her use of first person language tells the reader that they are reading a biased opinion, but also helps the reader trust Weldon as she is speaking
When talking to friends I also use more fillers such as ‘yeah’. I constantly use this filler to check that the other person is listening, as when I say ‘yeah’ my friend will also reply with ‘yeah’ giving me certainty that they are listening to me. When friends and I are talking, the topic is usually about something that happened, whether on a programme or in real life. So when we are telling each other what has happened, the other person usually has an opinion of what happened so will overlap. For example in my transcript...... Overlapping when I friend is talking is done so often that it’s not deemed as ‘rude’ between us so I constantly do it.
Past English Belonging Essay 2010 ‘An individual’s interaction with others and the world around them can enrich or limit their experience of belonging.’ Discuss this view with detailed reference to your prescribed text and ONE other related text of your own choosing. When presented with the statement “an individual’s interaction with others and the world around them can enrich or limit their experience of belonging” it is important to consider different texts that are from different contexts. The texts The Castle directed by Rob Sitch, involves an era with multicultural beliefs and the idea that everyone is equal and should be treated equally. This is a great related text for Romulus, My Father by Raimond Gaita as they deal with different contexts and therefore further prove that the above statement can be seen to be true as seen in these texts. This can be seen through the examples of
So when I am talking with my friends they are constantly asking me what these words mean as they do not know what they mean. For different groups of people, I tend to use a variety of different dialects. For example, if I’m with my peers or my friends and something is happening I would say “Wass appatainin?” which in the Queen's English means “what’s happening?” On the other hand when I’m talking to my parents, I would tend to use what some people would call “proper” English, because my parents are always correcting me on my grammar. Following on from how I speak when I’m with my friends, according to some of my family and some of my friends, apparently I have a different tone of voice when I’m speaking to different people on the phone. For example if I am talking to family and friends from the area where my family comes from, Merthyr Tydfil, I talk with a very strong Merthyr accent.
Just as Amy Tan said in her story in paragraph thirteen (13) that, “I my mother English is what I grow up in”. Everyone is born with a clean tongue that is transformed to make sounds and words that are native to their homeland and people they were raised by. Language can’t be described as a trait, like the color of your skin or the width of your shoulders. When society discriminates against individuals that speak differently, they are judging them based on how they were raised and how they were taught to speak, people don’t see them as just a person that didn’t have a choice of how they wanted to communicate, and conformed to fit into a puzzle of a whole area of people that sound the same way. Some will argue but I know this for fact that that people are molded by experience and adapt to the environment they were placed in.
