One of the many reasons why I came back was that I did not was to continue being in a factory the rest of my life. I saw all my co-workers who are older and I definitely didn't want to be an old factory worker. At my current job, there is always room to advance and move up in the company, so that is why I choose going to school for business management because I eventually want to be in the office. The most important reason why I decided to further my education is because I want to be a positive role model to my son Kaleb and show him that college is something you need to do to further your goals and accomplish dreams in life. Yes, I have had many obstacles that crossed my path but I want him to see that I didn’t just settle for less and that I am in charge of being able to accomplish my dreams and goals.
20 October 2011 The Bachelors Degree as a Job Requirement Being an adult and returning to college after receiving the pink slip from my employer was a hard choice I had to make. I soon found out that in this economy seven years of experience as an executive assistant, Microsoft certificates and my good attitude just wasn’t enough to get a good job anymore. I wasn’t even being considered because my resume didn’t state I went to college and received a bachelor’s degree. Going to college is a huge commitment and responsibility. College provides us with the knowledge and credibility that employers seek in this demanding world today.
But the major isn’t nearly as important as the toolbox of skills you come out with and the experiences you have’”(Zernike). Students are increasingly focused on how their major will translate into a job. Zernike interviews multiple professors and advisors from schools all over the country and somewhat of a consensus is found. Taking ‘abstract’ courses and getting involved with different things other than having a set major will lead to more ‘self-discovery’. “I think people change a great deal between 18 and 22” – Dr. Neuhauser, president of St. Michael’s College.
Luis’ student-teaching experience came as a realization to him not only in a positive way but in a negative way as well. Now that he finished his degree and credential work he least expected to be presented with a full-time teaching position in his hometown starting at $29,000 a year. As he least expected to allow his friend to talk him into a management trainee position at Sunset National it was another surprise to find that the large bank chose him 15 other candidates. This opportunity would give him a slightly better pay starting at $38,000 a year. In addition to his pay at the bank when he’s promoted to loan officer he would be receiving an additional $3,000 raise.
I am very interested in starting a specific service project my junior year for CAS hours and this would be a great help to me with that. I think that I would be a valuable attendee to CASL because I am a freshman. Anything I learn can be used for all the rest of my four years of high school. I would also be a valuable attendee to the CASL conference because I would easily be able to make up the work that I miss on that Monday from school. I am also one of the older ones out of all my classmates so I would like to go to CASL so that I can learn to be a better leader to those who might look up to me.
Why should I be the recipient of this scholarship? Christopher Rozine Hello, my name is Christopher Rozine and I am a senior at West Iron County High School. I have a lot of future plans and expectations of myself in the near future. I have been accepted and plan to enroll at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI to major in Accounting and Finance. This is now a program that takes five years of college education.
However, I know that I will need this in order to succeed. I view the QRB course as a crash course introductory to Economics, Accounting, Finance, Operations, and Research. According to University of Phoenix Week Four Supplement, “The QRB course prepares you to master skills such as using time series data to forecast, construct histograms and bivariate plots using Excel, and conducting a linear regression analysis.” Without taking this QRB course, I would most likely be confused and frustrated. This would not be conducive to my future career goals. The QRB course is a stepping stone, as I will learn certain concepts and other necessary skills to exceed in the next few classes, particularly Accounting and
Classes like wood shop, auto mechanics, home economics, typing, etc. are more and more frequently not being offered at high schools any more. These classes offer certain skill sets that would help people obtain a good job right out of high school, and also might offer some insight to what kind of field you want to work in which in the long run will help you obtain a “good” job. Even if you go to college and find a career choice that excites you, you can still end up below the poverty line because the American economy is flawed. Lars Eighner’s essay “On Dumpster Diving” details a core aspect of the three-year period when the author and his dog were homeless.
Rodrigo Cubedo WRT 101 December 4th, 2012 College: Is It Really Necessary? Go to college, get a degree, and find a well paying job. Everybody should be doing this, right? According to Charles Murray apparently not. Murray presented his book “Real Education: Four Simple Truths for Bringing America’s Schools Back to Reality.” (2008) Where he talks about his point of view on higher education; he doesn’t believe it is something everybody should be doing, since not everybody is prepared to attend college and struggle with all that is involved in the process of getting a B.A.
James Williams English 102 1 October 2014 American Dream Is it a safe choice for most people to make their mark on the world, minus a four year degree? No, it is not safe. The way the economy is set up in today’s world, in the near future, they cannot work anywhere without a college degree. For instance at most restaurants, employment will not be given unless college degree is provided. Without a college degree anyone could end up not be able to provide for themselves or family.
