“Fun Home” had great success and great critics. This biography is about Alison’s childhood growing up with homosexual father. In this autobiography, Alison Betchdel is not focusing on herself only, but also on complicated relationship with her father. The subtitle “Tragicomic” signals an interesting opposites theme that are prevalent throughout the book. The summary itself is very interesting, it weaves around Alison’s father’s death – possibly suicide – and Alison’s learning, a few months earlier, that he was gay.
The Woman of Willendorf may have been looked up to back in Common Era due to her capabilities. Her "womanly features" emphasized to show that she was respected because of what she has naturally, and her ability to reproduce. Barbie, on the other hand, is highly superficial. People look up to her now because she is beautiful, and is successful within her career as she has evolved to become other beings such as Barbie Police and Barbie Doctor. But the biggest difference with her is that achieving her looks may be highly unlikely.

Whether she might be the main character, the lover, the wife, or even the maid. There are plenty of example where you see these Latinas expressed in eroctic ways, where they are extremely desirable and beautiful. One example is the film “Chasing Papi”. You have three beautiful looking Latina actresses who are very hypersexualized and are chasing after the same man trying to win him over. There were many inspirational women during the 1950’s but the one woman that struck me the most was the beautiful Marilyn Monroe. She also took her talents to the top and became a mega star. Regardless if it’s 2012 or 1950, young girls struggle with self-confidence issues.
