Experiencing the works of Britney first hand is the most amazing feeling in the world. The way that she moved up on stage and got the crowd going really made me look up to her as a role model. Her vocals and the way she interacted with us made it such an enjoyable experience. If I had to choose to see anyone in the world for my first concert I would say her name without hesitation. Even through the chaos within her life, I still listen to her music.

Such is a circumstance the young singer is no means unfamiliar with. For, some say it was luck or maybe destiny that this Houston-bred beauty would find her star initially rising with the most successful girl group of all time. As fate would have it, Luckett aligned with Pop megastar Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Latavia Roberson to ascend to the top of charts as Destiny’s Child – a fierce R&B foursome with heavenly looks, voices, and moves to match. But, as the 2000s rolled on, the very rocket that launched her into stardom ultimately left her behind in what came as an unceremonious ousting from the group. Accompanied by a host of headlines citing tension, contention, and Matthew Knowles‘ interventions as the cause of dissension, the remaining group members still rose above to find themselves topping charts again while Luckett and Roberson stayed behind.

In my opinion, the Gibson Girl is equivalent to the models young girls and women look up to in today’s time as inspiration to be strong-willed, confident, and free. This “new woman” image set a bit of fear in some for they feared this new ideal would disrupt the social order. Isadora Duncan is an example of one of the women who became a real-life example of these ideals. She was a popular entertainer and dancer and boldly undermined gender norms by dancing in bare feet and wearing short Greek-inspired tunics (Bowles, 2011 Sec 2.3). Duncan’s message was that she could achieve success without the help of a man.
“Norma, the baby in the pictures, said of her mother that she 'was a woman who loved to enjoy life, who loved her children. She loved music and she loved to dance. When I look at that photo of mother, it saddens me. '” “'They were tough, tough times, but they were the best times we ever had,' said
There were many inspirational women during the 1950’s but the one woman that struck me the most was the beautiful Marilyn Monroe. If I ever had the opportunity to travel back in time to be someone else, I would choose to be her. She was an inspiration to young girls everywhere because she was so comfortable in her skin. She also took her talents to the top and became a mega star. Regardless if it’s 2012 or 1950, young girls struggle with self-confidence issues.
