The value of money has many misconceptions. As depicted in the story, people can look too highly upon money. The banker, filled with pride and very high self esteem, taunts the lawyer by presenting to him that “2 million dollars [was] a trifle”, which was not enough to pay off the “three or four years of the best years of [his] life” (Chekhov 767). The banker praises and flaunts his money in hopes of scaring the lawyer away from following through with the arrangement. He shows his true cockiness when he predicts the lawyer to only last three to four years out of the total 15.

It was a really big surprise for me and my family. I have faced many challenges and discrimination because of my ethnicity. For example, my dad got fired from his job because his co-workers said he was an Asian and did not speak English. I am luckier than him because I have a chance to be a part of a great program like the Diversity scholars’ class and the Student Enrichment Program. Besides, I am also assigned an advisor and mentor to help me keep track with my classes.
Willy thinks that if he were to tell the truth to his kids, they wouldn’t respect him for not being as successful as he claims to be. Furthermore, many people chase after jobs that they do not enjoy in order to keep up with what society believes to be acceptable in regards to standard living. Walter wants it so he could become owner of a Liquor store, whereas Beneatha wants to go to go school to become a doctor. Mama gives him the remaining $6,500 of the insurance money, telling him to deposit $3,000 for Beneatha’s education and to keep the last $3,500. Walter agrees, but we come to find out when Bobo arrives that he did not put the money in the bank for his sister that he used all the money for the liquor store and that Willy Harris run off with it all. When this happens during the play it is tough to feel bad for Walter because throughout the play he has not been good with money from when his son asks for 50 cents and he gives a dollar and then has no money, or by him constantly spending money on alcohol. This also drives a very big wedge between Walter and Beneatha because she was entitled to some of the money that was lost during the business transaction.
For example in the text, Judy's mum Mrs. Simmons tells her that "it is a battle… it starts tonight and it goes on for the rest of your life, and as for Robs dad Mr. Willison he tells his wife that "no son of mine is going to grow up with the same wretched that i.." in "Manhood" the protagonist, Rob who is a young thirteen year old boy is being pushed to the limit by his dad, who doesn't care about Rob's other interest and ambitions. Rob has no interest in those kind of sports or any sports at all, he is just doing them just to please his dad.
They make enough money just to get by and support them, but that is about it. In order to buy new clothes or have fun with my friends, I had to get a job when I turned 15 simply because my parents couldn’t afford it. I know it is not their fault, but I feel that starting work at such a young age it also ended my childhood prematurely. “Gail is sharing a room in a well-known downtown flophouse for $250 a week. Her roommate, a male friend, has begun hitting on her, driving her nuts, but the rent would be impossible alone.” (Ehrenreich, 2001:25).
